2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 jsh420 (11) - USA - APR 17, 2011
pours semi hazy copper orange with a 1 finger head that faded to a film and left some spotted lacing
smells of light cereal grains and a little apple
taste is rather bland - light grains and apples that were a bit tart
mouthfeel - medium body with low carbonation very smooth and creamy
overall - very let down with this offering from capital since the make some of the best lagers i have had - maybe thats why this beer has been retired

12oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear, deeper orange-golden colored body with a finger-width, frothy, white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is sweet, grainy malts and a good amount of florals. Bready and fruity with a touch of honey and grass. Flavor is similar. Sweet and grainy with a good amount of honey florals. Bready with a light grass. Finishes crisp and clean with a light, grassy hop and smooth, bready sweetness. Medium length aftertaste following a medium-light, smooth body and soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty straightforward helles. Balanced and easy drinking with a decent enough flavor.

Thanks to my friend Frostyone. Twist off. hmmm. Pours deep golden to nearly orange or very light amber no head or lace. Nose is sweet cereal malts, breads, light caramel, pleasant lightly herbal hops and just some tartness. Flavor is sweet tasty malts and some more pleasant and floral hops. Sweetness is not overpowering or cloying. Full bodied and smooth mouth feel that finishes well and moderately short. I liked this one for a lager. Good drinker
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nuffield (3087) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JUN 26, 2010
Perfectly reasonable lager, for what that’s worth, with a combination of grassiness and malt. Indeed, it probably has a better malt base than a lot of brewers would give to this. Finishes a bit limp. Shows some effort at brewing an otherwise ambivalent beer. Bottle.

For some reason I never can get really get into the Capital Brewery scene. They are always good and inoffensive but also very average and "safe" This is yet another rock solid bolid bu wholey unimpressive brew.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Dickinsonbeer (5076) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 10, 2010
GABF 09 on tap as "Helles Lager". I was a bit let down by this one, as Im usually impressed with the clean well made quality of Capital. Pours a nice light gold, clear, with a white head. Aroma has slight buttery Diacetyl which ruins it for me- some light floral grassy hops, good doughy bready pils malt. Flavor is also butter, some slight crackery DMS, dough, pils malt, light hops, and a bit messy overall. Meh.

12 oz bottle sent to me by my winter 2009 Secret Santa. Pour is a clear golden with a 2 inch pure white head that lasts nicely then falls with some lace. Aroma of soft straw and cereal grains. Touch of slight sweet floral behind the grain. Nice clean and fresh nose. Taste is the cereal grain of the nose along with a nice gypsum mineral and straw hop to the back, leading to a crisp straw finish. Palate is thin medium, nice carbonation level and the dry earthy finish. Nice full character beer, thanks Santa.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 doubelknv3 (750) - Illinois, USA - NOV 3, 2009
Golden-amber with no head. Lemon, fruity, with mild skunk aroma. Lemon, mild grain, earthy flavours. Zesty with medium bitterness.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 pkbites (509) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 31, 2009
Pours a slightly dark yellow with a white creamy head that lasts the duration. Some good lacing on the glass. Lots of malty aroma. Some bitter hops hiding behind the malt supply a pleasant after taste. This is probably what the average macro tasted like 100+ years ago before corn and rice became the major ingredient. Today it’s just an above average, yet wayyyy over priced micro brew.

It ain’t great, but it’s better than garbage. This is probably akin to Val’s 1st attempts at brewing his wondrous pleasure elixir (Blatz & Blatz light). It’s raw, and a little sweet (something like the neighbors wife). You could probably get goofed up on this stuff, but price-wise it can’t compete with Lost Lake, Grain Belt, Hamms or Mountain Creek, so why bother? Keep a few on hand for the pesky neighbor/minister/in-laws and in no time at all, they will know how you REALLY feel about them. And you can smile to yourself, and reach into your "secret stash" of Blatz and grin with the solace of a dead man!
