2009 bottle - So I’ve been to Bockfest at Capital Brewery several times, in the years where you didn’t have to wait 2 hours in line to get one beer. Though it used to be fun to toast the return of Blonde Doppelbock and get little fish thrown at you from a man on a roof riding a dinosaur, it just doesn’t do it for me anymore. And just like I used to love Bockfest, I also used to love this beer. Then it seemed to change, tasting harsh and boozy, real sharp. I haven’t had it in years, so I decided to give it another try by plopping one in a mix-six, and I’m glad I did. The 2009 bottle had been sitting around since last spring, but that may have helped. It pours amber with a big, foamy, off-white head. The smell is big and sweet, with honey and just a touch of booze. It’s a sweet malt bomb. The taste is more of the same, sweet and malty with a pretty booze finish, but not the sharpness that I remember--more warming. It’s not too complex, but easy to drink and very satisfying. It’s a bit syrupy and not as chewy as I remember, but with the heat smoothed out, I really enjoyed this one.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 reebtogi (2169) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - APR 23, 2012
355ml bottle pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger white head that settles quickly and leaves only a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is pale malts with some mild hops and yeast. Taste is malty sweet with some yeast and a light hoppy bitterness. Alcohol is present in this medium bodied and highly carbonted brew. A pleasing mouthfeel is present and this beer is recommended for a good tasting experience.

4/18/12. 12oz bottle. Orange pour with particulates under a small khaki head. Sweet, malty aroma that actually does smell like a doppelbock - sweet, caramel, fruity, etc. Sweet, fruity flavor as well with caramel and light sugars. Not bad!

Slightly hazy copper-orange with a small white head. Light alcohol, toffee, orange zest aroma. Raisins, honey, caramel flavor. Fairly rich, yet strangely (and scarily) seeming sessionable.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BigSound (149) - New York, USA - MAR 17, 2012
Transparent golden amber, had about an inch of white head that receded pretty fast. Pretty visible carbonation.
Has a nice aroma of malt, light hop and maybe some green apple?
Taste is a little tart, green apple, also has some malty notes In the body and some hops in the finish. Also a bit of yeast.
Feel is pretty smooth with a medium body and a slight hoppy finish.
Overall not to bad I love a good dopplebock, I’ve never seen a blonde one before so I was happy to try it.

Draft at Capital Tap Haus. Pours pretty clear dark gold with orange tint. Small, soapy white head. Nose is biscuity, a bit of clove and citrus. Taste follows suit: bits of rind, spicy finish. Way drinkable for the ABV.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 high_on_hops (211) - Missouri, USA - FEB 22, 2012
Pours a slightly hazy amber with an off-white head that disappears and leaves some lacing. The aroma is mainly honey and cloves with a bit of yeast. The cloves are stronger in the taste along with some malt and yeast and a sweet aftertaste.
