Poured from a firkin at the Happy Gnome. Bourbon, malt, complexity, and layer upon layer of flavor. One of my favorite pours!

On tap at the brewery for Madison Craft Beer Week - Pours deep amber, murky with a thin ring of tan bubbles. Sweet and caramelly on the nose. Decent bourbon, really malty and very hot. Taste is pretty over-the-top sweet, with toffee and bourbon dominating.There’s not much balance here as the barrel just takes over. Lots of heat on the finish, and a weird menthol flavor. Syrupy, still, and pretty thick. Not very pleasant.

Draft sample at FOBAB 2010. Pours a bright amber color with a small off-white head. Notes of bourbon, vanilla, oak, grapes, apples, caramel malts, nuts, leaves, and toast. Dry finish. Medium-bodied, with a dry, malty mouthfeel and mild carbonation. The alcohol seems higher than 7.8% because I felt it in a warming way. Good balance of malts and fruits with the barrel notes. Really nice, interesting beer.
