Pours dark cola brown with thin beige head that sticks around. I get almost nothing in the nose. Tastes of roasted malts with a hint of pine. Agree with other ratings that calling this an IA is dumb.

Aroma is dark bread/roasted malts and mild pine. The flavor is dark bread, citrus, fruit/berries and a tart//bitter/dry finish.

Bottle. Dark pour with cream colored pour. Smells like a stout with slight hops. Like black IPAs with more hops. Not bad though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Dark pour with toasty malt aroma. Head is frothy and beige. Toasty caramel malt with little hops. Not as hoppy as I expected for this style. Good though.

Black with frothy, tan head. Lite lacing. Pine, roast, mild licorice, and mild chocolate aroma notes. Medium bodied, fairly bland taste, and chocolate/licorice notes. Tongue zing, mild hop finish. C ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark ruby brown, maybe my eyes were playing tricks, but it almost seemed to have a plum hue. Medium to small creamy light brown head, lasting. Aroma is light roasty. Flavor shows more hops, sweetness to balance. Subdued piney bitter. Medium body. Smooth. A very easy drinking black IPA, much more sessionable than many of the style. The tradeoff is the lack of complexity or notable character. Doesn’t leave a big statement but its very approachable.

12oz bottle. Deep brown-red body. Steady beige head. Mild but true aroma. has some minty chocolate bitterness up front, but sort of finishes hollow..not much depth. Better than expected, as it is drinkable, not off, and relatively to style. The cheap or sparing use of good malt tones come through as expected, sugary, cheap feel. Has the body of a 4.5% beer in a sense. I would drink this again, not so bad for cheap macro-micro.

Poured from 12oz bottle from mix six, couldn’t pull the trigger on a full sixer on this one, pours a dark clear brown with a light brown head and spotty lacing in the glass, more like a brownish red ipa than black, aroma is roasty with more chocolate and ash than hops, a light amount of pine shows up but really subtle, the flavor is really malty and has a chocolate finish, roast is noticed through out, hops really don’t show up all that much, a different kind of black ipa, more porter like than anything, meh.

Ughsmash (7001) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 3, 2014
Bottled. Poured medium brown with a well-retained khaki head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty grains and brown malts with dank herbal and fresh piney accents. The flavor found a mix of sweet, but not all that interesting malts at the core, with herbal bitterness, pine resin, and some grassy notes around.. finished moderately bitter and nicely juicy. Medium-bodied and fairly well carbonated.. creamy, with just about enough bitterness to balance it and keep it interesting.. this was solid.

A bit ashy, light maltiness, bitter and herbal hops, a bit astringent, not exemplary of the style.
