Without a doubt the finest dark beer brewed in the United States. Styled after a traditional Munchener-Dunkel, Dark is a rich, delicious beer combined with excellent drinkability - a rare combination.

Bottle - Pours clear mahogany with next to no head. Sharp and bitter on the nose, with alcohol, a candi sugar smell, and light malt. Feels syrupy sweet and unbalanced. Taste is sweet malt, sugary, with bitter malt, a touch of caramel, and some light toasted notes. Watery and thin in the mouth with a lot of carbonation, this one was pretty unpleasant all around. Did I get a bad bottle?

Label said Capital Dark Lager, Iíll assume this is that beer unless I hear otherwise. Cola-like pour with a short off-white head and minimal lacing. Toasty malts and sugary sweetness along with some light spice. The flavor was nutty and toasted malts with a touch of sweetness. Thin body with lots of carbonation.

Appearance: Pours a deep, dark brown with a good head. Wonderful lacing. Aroma: The aroma really blossoms as it sits a couple minutes. Deep and malty, hints of raisin. Flavor: Very malt forward beer with subtle hop balance. Raisin and plum fruitiness balance a pleasant bitterness. Lingering finish. Mouthfeel: Clean, medium bodied beer. Goes down easy and before you know it, youíre ready for the next sip. We had the pleasure of meeting head brewer Kirby Nelson at Steveís Liqours, where he was promoting some winter beers and offering tastings. Heís a fantastically nice fellow, and a Zappa fan (he names all their fermenters after Zappa songs - pics coming). Having studied with a German lager master, this beer definitely plays to Kirbyís strong points. Highly recommended.

A nice simple dark beer, though not a lot to it. Poured from the bottle to a dark chocolate brown with medium thick tan head that lasted to mid-glass and left okay lacing. Aroma was a faint caramel toffee as was the flavor of this medium bodied. Finish was smooth and medium duration, but again left no distinguishing mark. Kind of just ho-hum.

Dark amber brown pour with offwhite head. Aroma of toffee, caramel. Kind of smells like a candy dish with a bit of smoke. Flavor is caramel and chocolate with a light dryness. Smooth mouthfeel with dry finish. Pretty good.
