UPDATED: SEP 16, 2003 Bottled. Reading these other deScriptions, I wonder just what was in my bottle. Color was fine, head foamed up but dissipated quickly. I caught a big whiff of sorghum & molasses, like you get when you brew with a dark malt extract. Couldn't find roast malt notes at all. But then the other dark lagers I've tried lately have been very lacking in uniformity, so maybe this is closer to style than I realize. Eminently enjoyable, but not what I expected.
Re-rated; Draft. From the tap it comes off somewhat better; a decent dark roast taste. I think I almost an allergic reaction from the hop nose?

Bottle. Chocolate malt and fresh hay aroma. Dark chestnut with small head. Sweet molasses/chocolate malt and mildly bitter herbal hay flavor. Decent.

Bottle. Deep amber maroon color, off white head. Aroma of nutty butterscotch. Taste is sweet caramel with a burnt and nutty edge. Tasty.

Dark pour with a slight head. Malty with a slight toasted oat and slightly sweet finish. Reminds me of a typical dark beer in Germany.

Clear, dark red-brown with a puffy beige head.
Dark bread, caramel aroma.
Taste is toasty, dark bread, caramel malt, a little bitter chocolate.
Really pretty nice.....a mild, everyday dark beer.

Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of bread and light caramel. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of bread and light roastiness with smooth lightly bitter finish.

Brown/amber with thin head. Aroma of caramel, toasted and munich malts. Medium/light body, caramel, some fruit esters, and a sweet finish.

Draft. Deep brown body with an off-white head. Malty aroma of caramel, molasses, cookie, nuts. Light floral note. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Mostly sweet malts in the taste, though lingering bitterness helps cut that in the finish. Some raw graininess. Enjoyable.

Pours a dark reddish brown - a solidly made dunkel - roasted nuts, toffee, and dark bread throughout, with balancing a acidity, mild bitterness, and an earthy, leafy character - full, creamy texture - crusty pumpernickel finish - solid.

Reddish brown is the pour on this one, with off-white colored head. Lots of rich bready notes on the nose. Caramel and bread on the palate. Finishes with just a hint of hops.
