COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our 25th Anniversary beer. The Flame is a very interesting concept and there is not enough space to describe it here. You’ll have to visit our website for the complete story. But it will suffice to say that this is the "birth beer" of the concept. In this stage it is a blend of Autumnal Fire and a formula for something we whipped together and called "Imperial Fire." Combined they form the beginning of the Eternal Flame, a deeply amber hued Doppelbock that is 9.1 ABV of silky malt intensity.

Given how delicious Autumnal Fire is, I was somewhat disappointed by this one. Very good, but not as good as the original.

Bottle, shared with Parksy. Medium orange amber, quite hazy, with a white head that settles quickly into a flat thin skim. Nice malty aroma and flavours: caramel, breadcrusts, dark cherries. Chewy malts, sweet and lipsmacking good! A delicious doppelbock!

Overall another great example of dopplebock with mild to little bittering and no hop flavor. Something of a unique tale that they will be using half of the brewed batch in future annual releases. This is something of a nice malty sweetness that is candy to the beer drinker.

Bottle - After cringing my way through too many boozy, messy sweet malt bombs from Capital, I’ve learned to leave these suckers hang out in the cellar for a couple months before I even think about trying them. This one pours rosy amber with a big foamy light tan. Nose is big, malty, and sweet, with sugary caramel notes, vanilla, and bread dough. A bit of plastic mingles with the yeast. Taste is about what you’d expect from the nose. Big bread notes--mostly dough--come through in waves, with the caramel/toffee sweetness mixing in with lots of alcohol warmth. Big thick body, slick and with minimal carbonation bite. Really sweet for my tastes, though it’s a nice changes when I’m in the mood for something big. Oh, and weird that Capital put out a doppelbock finally. Haven’t seen that from them before.

Huh, I’ve had my bottles for over a month, and it only has ten ratings? Lazy Wisconsinites. 12oz bottle from John’s Grocery~ $10 a 4/pk. After a relatively vigorous pour, a clear amber orange body yields a 1/2 finger creamy beige head, fair retention. Big caramel and toasted malt nose with a tinge of nuttiness, not a whole lot else. Flavor follows suit, adds a bit of a cola element. Alcohol in the finish makes this semi-dry, scant bitterness. Low carbonation, big syrupy thick body. Too sweet for me, but decent.

Copper color with a small head. Aroma of caramel and grains, light floral hop and some alcohol. Strong caramel flavor. Quite boozy. Dry, grainy finish. Might be best with a month or two to chill out the hot alcohol.

Bottle. Poured a clear dark orange color with an off white head. Smelled of hay and buttery toffee. Medium bodied and sweet with some warming alcohol. Flavors followed the aromas closely.

Pretty good beer. With an aggressive pour I got a small off white head that quickly settled down to a ring and no lace. Color is a very lovely, clear, red orange amber with a couple of tiny bubble trails. Aroma is great upon opening with an immediate whiff of sweet malt. Out of the glass are also caramel, toffee, fruit, and a very slight hint of butterscotch. Flavor is similar to nose with an excellent balancing effect from carbonic tang and bittering hops. Finish is like flavor with also a little banana, of good length, and some alcohol at the very end.

Strong malty aroma, almost reminiscent of a barley wine. Deep maltiness in flavor, mildly sweet as well with a graininess throughout. Somewhat reminds me of Sam Adams version, an imperial of the style, pretty good.

Interesting. Has sort of an ethereal/zesty syrupyness. Flavor is very much caramel candy - - somewhere between the lightness of Werthers Original and the gumminess of Kraft Caramels, followed by a steely alcohol attack and lingering bitterness. I’m finding this really hard to drink, and impossible to enjoy, but I’m trying my best.
