I may not always like what this brewery comes up with, but it’s not for lack of quality, but rather personal taste. That said, this Festbier is a tasty winner. Sweeter than expected and mildly hopped I’d give it very high marks indeed if you’re into this style.

I can tell you this is not the time I’m usually divulging into this style, but hey it IS the Capital Brewery summer seasonal, yes summer. It comes in a 12 oz twist-off bottle (still don’t know why Capital doesn’t have the pry-off). It pours into my mug a decent light amber/caramel/golden color with a foamy, white head that dissipated pretty luckily leaving no lace. The smell is like a lot of American Oktos, malty with a sense of almost cola in the scent but with a distinctly more German flair. The malts are malty and springy. The taste has a boat load of saltine cracker like grain with some nuttiness but not a ton. The hops leave a leveling bitterness which works nicely. It is a bit lighter and waterier than most in a way, but in a good way. The hops seem different here than in most oktoberfest beers. Overall this is a good depiction of the style, slightly altered. 12 oz. bottle courtesy of Bockyhorsey - Pours a hazy golden color with a one finger thick off white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is toasty malt and esters. Flavor is toasted malt with a tad bit of friutiness. Palate is smooth. Medium body. A good beer. Thanks Bill and Wendy.

Bottle, courtesy Bockyhorsey. Poured an amber color, very generous initial head with solid retention, nice lacing. The aroma was grassy hops and some caramel. Flavor was grassy hops over top of caramel and pilsner-like qualities, bread and honey. An added spiciness, yet the grassy hops reappear in the aftertaste (Saaz?) and keep this from being anything vienna-like. Not my preferred take on a marzen, yet for what it was, quite nice. Mouthfeel was malty / carbonated. Thanks, Bill and Wendy!

Tap at brewery-Aroma was definately that of german malts and grains/hints of fall-appearance was copper/pale red-flavor was nice malt, spice, and german hops. palate was a bit thin and little carbonation. if those would have been better, it would be a world class marzen by far.

Bottle. Aroma has a malt sweet fruit aroma. Golden body with white head. Body flavor is mainly medium sweet malt blend. Some fruit in flavor but hard to dintingish what maybe oranges. Medium sweet palate. Beer had a complexity to it, intriging.

Amber with a thin white head. Aroma is nobly hopped with caramel, toasted malt and some German hops too. Caramel, toasted malt and a touch of hops – just not very flavorful. Easy drinking and thin, I’m a fan of most Capital beers, but this one misses the mark.

Bottle. Slightly hazy light orange pour with a thinner white head. Aroma and taste of caramel malt, banana, and yeast. Pretty darn good. Strange style for a summer seasonal but really, who cares.

Clear gold body that fails to prevent the average sized head from collapsing prematurely. Very little aroma. Malty flavor with a touch of hop bitterness. Low carbonation and light body make this an easy drinker.

Clear honey colored beer with sparse head. Lots of carbonation. Faint malty nose. Sweet malty taste with a refreshing characteristic. Carbonation kind of bites at my tongue.
