Dark black body. One bottle Poured with a nice lasting 1.5 inch head, the other Poured with a 1/2 inch fast dissipating one. Spicy sweet aroma. Heavy tasting beer. Flavors of pepper, sweet malt, mild bitterness. This is a big improvement over some of the old Capital beers. Looking forward to trying some other new ones.

Bottled. Pours a dark baker’s chocolate brown with a clamshell tan head. Rich, slightly smokey and grainy aroma, a mix of toasted pumpernickel and fresh prairie grasses with a little bit of cola and roasted peanuts. Prairie grasses and straw notes follow into the flavor, along with some slightly roasted coffee, caramel, and a bit of overripe plum. Marshmallowy smooth texture with fine carbonation, though the finish is a touch watery. Thanks to Elwood62 for the bottle!

Sampled on draught at the Aqualand Ale House in Boulder Jct., Wisconsin, and at Great Northern Beer Festival in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Pours a dark root beer brown colored brew with a decent sized off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind excellent lacing and a cream top. Aroma of roasted dark malt, floral hops, a hint of citrus and some cocoa. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of chocolate and caramel, roasted cocoa, vanilla and some very faint coffee. Finish is quite smooth, with a short roasted dark malt and floral hop aftertaste. Some of the smoothest scharzbiers I’ve tried.

Bottle from Steve’s in Fitchburg. Cellar aged 6 weeks. Pours cola colored with a tan head. Some spots of lace. Aroma has meat smoke, molasses, some cocoa and some caramelly malt. Taste is of sweet caramel, molasses, some bread, some grapey-ness, some cocoa nibs and an undercurrent of salty smoke. Medium bodied with a touch of alcohol. Finishes sweet with eventual salty bitterness. Mainly sweet. Not my favorite style, but an interesting take on it. 13.8

Draft. Very nice body, and an aggressive flavor to this one, the body is smooth and pilsener like yet the flavor is full, with some roastd notes, cocoa, and coffee. Surprising for an imperial schwarzbr.

Bottled. Poured deep brown with a tall, creamy, well-retained beige head. The aroma picked up burnt black malts, molasses, and other roasty black malts with light herbal hop accents. The flavor found well-roasted black malts, coffee, and a touch of molasses at the core.. vanilla and light herbal bitterness emanated outward.. finished dry with a lot of residual bitter roast.. fairly tasty. Medium-bodied and grainy on the palate.. moderate carbonation.. OK feel to it.

Bottle - Capital made a schwarzbier! Pours dark cloudy cola with a thin foamy tan head. Nose is milky, with a light nuttiness, dark bread, and a hint of honey sweetness. Taste is milky, with yeast, malted milk balls, nuttiness, and a dry, bready finish. Some milky sweetness comes in on the end. Smooth, velvety carbonation with a medium-heavy body. Tasty stuff, and I like the 4-pack rather than the bomber. $8.99 was a little steep, but at least this is good. Glad to have 3 more in the fridge. Now go make a Bohemian Pilsner, a Berliner, and a Zwickel!!

Aroma is dark/roasted/smoked malts. The flavor is smoked malts, dark fruit, slight earthy notes and a smooth/mildly acidic finish.
