COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Ojibwe, wild rice is known as Manoomin. In Bavaria, Doppelbock beer names end in -ator. Manoomator is a bilingualized term describing a Doppelbock with wild rice included in the grist. The result is a malt richness tempered by a unique nutty fruitiness. How to describe? Intriguing!

Bottle - Pours clear rosy amber with a thin foamy light tan head. Dry, slightly sharp malt on the nose, rich and bready with some nutty tones and a bit of warmth. Very smooth taste, with the nuttiness coming through even more. A little bit of honey sweetness balances it out a bit, but it’s still dry. The finish is still a little bitter and sharp--too much for my tastes. I’d rather have it finish smooth as silk. Has about as much belly-warming as you’d expect from 8%, though the fluffiness of the carbonation is a little aggressive and bites a bit, hiding the taste. I gotta say, even with the umpteenth doppelbock in their portfolio, Capital is growing on me a bit, though it’d be nice if their Capital Square series wasn’t almost $12 a four-pack--and would it kill them to mix a couple of new styles in?

On tap at the Malt House - Clear amber pour with a thin off white head. Brown sugar and a bit of sharp alcohol on the nose. Really sweet and bready. Taste is a little sharp, especially on the finish. Bready, but pretty muddled and fairly unbalanced. Finishes with a bit of a hop bite. Rice is evidident. The opposite of smooth.

Pours a clear amber with a medium creamy tan head. Aroma is malty and bready...slightly sweet with light fruitiness. Flavor is very malty with some fruity notes, fig, raisin, and a subtle chocolate note. Mouthfeel is medium/full with a malty fruity/sweet finish...tastes a bit like a lollipop.

Bottle poured a dark amber in color with a thin off white head. Aroma has malts, nuts, dark fruit, and cherry. Mouth feel is lighter than expected and the carbonation on the lighter side. Flavor has some sweet malt, fruits, and a unique starchy twang from the rice. It does have the sweet Doppelbock thing but the rice really does strange things to a beer.

Bottle from arkurzynski. Pours bright clear amber with a soft white head that settles and leaves a thin collar. aroma is light and herbal with a subtle spice and leather. Taste is bitter and sweet all rounded off with an herbal and peppery taste with a solid malty backbone. Palate is medium and sticky with a drying finish.

Served in Pint glass and tall tulip.Clear orange Short lived white head, no lacing. Smell fresh cracked pecan/walnut shell. black pepper, long lasting mild hop. Also a taste of burnt oregano (don’t ask why I know this). Medium carbonation, tiny alcohol burn. Overall it reminds me of a bolder Red Hook Copper Hook

Bottled. Poured brilliant medium orange with a dense, fairly short-lived yellowy-beige head. The aroma picked up a strong and sweet dose of wild rice and nutty notes, with redder fruits, berries, and a kiss of vanilla accenting.. almost malt likka-like warmth over the top.. on the heavy-handed side. The flavor found a lot more fruity character than the nose indicated, with wild rice and berries rising through the finish.. dry, peppery alcohol and rise husks on the warm finish.. again sweet and strong.. needed a little subtlety. Medium-plus bodied, sweet, and fairly strong as mentioned on the palate.. I wanted to like this, but it didn’t quite work.

Tap at Capital Tap Haus. Pours dark amber red, two-finger tan head. Fruity esters on the nose, hint of nuttiness, some clove. Spicy on the tongue; bits of almond and a mild toffee presence. Warming. Not bad.

12 oz. bottle. Deep, reddish amber pour with a small white head. Mild, fruity aroma with some light fruits, apparent caramel and alcohol. RIch, malty flavor, lots of plums and red fruits. Lots of toffee and caramel, light crispness. Some candy and vanilla. Somewhat lighter than you’d think from the rice. Medium body. Finishes sweet.
