Without a doubt the finest dark beer brewed in the United States. Styled after a traditional Munchener-Dunkel, Dark is a rich, delicious beer combined with excellent drinkability - a rare combination.

Bottle. A dark brown color with an off-white head. It has an aroma of toasted malt and caramel. The flavor is understated yet is initially sharp with burnt caramel. The aftertaste is pleasant, leaving a grainy and malty after glow.

Nice dark brownish-reddish liquid. Almost no head. Good roasted malt aroma. Slight bitter hints of scent. Sweet and creamy taste at first mellowing and lingering with a nice wheat toasty aftertaste. Good texture.

creamy candle colored head rides proudly uptop the brew like a rolls royce hood ornament. it’s a medium brown pour, cedar reddish tones. intricate lace--so much so i thought i could discern the effigy of elvis (the young one) on the glass, but by the time i’d fetched the camera it had morphed into nothing more than a silly bunny. fresh, nutty malt aroma, touch of woody spice and a stray vapor of anise. completely different than the beck’s dark that proceeded it down my gullet: less floral but more smooth. sweet and whole wheat bready, hops wave demurely from the back row; not a "huge" beer, but nice.

Appearance and head retention are great, however I find the taste and asroma to be dominated by malt and metallic/mineral combined flavors. Perhaps I’m drinking this one too cold? Warming up - I’m starting to taste the chocolate and a slightly roasted aftertaste. A pretty good beer but not he fines dark beer brewed in America.

Dark, walnut-colored brew with large stable off-white head. Nose caramel, roasted grain, and a bit of baked apples. I didn’t find the flavor as "balanced" as some of you; seems heavily malty without a lot of hops either in the front or back; but I’m more of a malt-man and don’t mind. "German" richness and sweetness very evident, somewhat bock-like, with a warming finish. Good effort from this above-average cheesehead brewery!

Dark bronze color emphasizes the rich malt character hidden within. Very well balanced with subtle hop aroma. If I had an Oktoberfest celebration, I would have to include this beer.

i was very impressed with this beer. It was very tasty and refreshing. It almost reminded me a little bit of calumet dark. Not quite though.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2006 good for this style-good chocolate malts, german (sazz?) hops and a tingle on the toungue in the middle. dark copper/mahogony hue with note much head. flavros are evergreen, chocolate, light char, and some earthy hops on the finish. palate is slick with medium carbonation. finish is earthy with some estery twang. nice dunkel!
