Reminds me of Dark Ballantine at Lum’s (that was a long time ago!).A little too sweet, but bold and refreshing.

Pours deep red with small brown head. Nose is malty sweet with heavy notes of caramel, nuts, toffee, and rich bread. Taste is nutty, breads, medium sweetness, toffee flavor but not cloying or overly sweet. Mouth feel creamy but not thick, and smooth with light carbonation. Really pretty enjoyable.

Appearance: Pours a deep, dark brown with a good head. Wonderful lacing.
Aroma: The aroma really blossoms as it sits a couple minutes. Deep and malty, hints of raisin.
Flavor: Very malt forward beer with subtle hop balance. Raisin and plum fruitiness balance a pleasant bitterness. Lingering finish.
Mouthfeel: Clean, medium bodied beer. Goes down easy and before you know it, you’re ready for the next sip.
We had the pleasure of meeting head brewer Kirby Nelson at Steve’s Liqours, where he was promoting some winter beers and offering tastings. He’s a fantastically nice fellow, and a Zappa fan (he names all their fermenters after Zappa songs - pics coming). Having studied with a German lager master, this beer definitely plays to Kirby’s strong points. Highly recommended.

i was very impressed with this beer. It was very tasty and refreshing. It almost reminded me a little bit of calumet dark. Not quite though.

Labelled Munich dark with a different (new?) label. Great dark malt flavor, with initial roastiness that fades into malt complexity, balanced just right with a nice kick of hops that demand another sip. Excellent take on a style that is difficult to do well.

Had this interesting brew in a bottle. Unfortunately only one bottle came in my sampler.
Lovely rich nose of roasted malt and heavy grain, caramel and flowers, raisins and alcohol.
Pours a sparkling dark copper. The generous tan creamy head is mostly lasting but has
lacing that can only be described as fair. The very pleasing flavor starts malty but is
balanced with low acidity. The finish is long lasting and deep, mostly bittersweet. The
medium to full body is very creamy and lively. The finish feels alcoholic. Very well done.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2005 Bottle. Deep Ruby color, somewhat hazy. Flavors of slightly sweet coffee and roasted malts. Smooth on the palate with a lively carbonated mouthfeel. Comes across well put together and there is nothing bad that stands out. This is a good dunkel.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Styles (2014) - Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA - OCT 6, 2005
UPDATED: MAY 1, 2006 Dark mahogany, very filtered tan head fades to film, ring of bubbles. Very bready aroma, some caramel and bitter chocolate. Flavor is all sweet caramel malt up front, with a certain burnt/roasted grain character to it, but in a good way. Very easy drink, finishes with just enough aftertaste to leave you begging for more. Not my favorite style, but very well done. Pleasantly surprised.

Pours a dark clean amber with a medium sized head. Aroma of malts, barley and light spice. Flavor is bitter malts, light hops, and hints of roasted nuts and cocoa. Pretty good.

12 ounce bottle into a pint glass, deep amber with a medium tan head. Aroma was of roast malt with hints of coffee and chocolate. The flavor was of roast malt and sweet with notes of dark chocolate and caramel. Reminds me of a dopplebock. Would male a very nice session beer.
