3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 TAR (2236) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - JUN 26, 2002
Brown-mahogany color. Delicate aroma includes light perfumey English hops, toast, cream, cardboard, and caramel. (Reminiscent of Lagunitas Amber ale) Flavors are very mild, and consist of candied malt and underlying chocolate. Finishes notably dry and bitter. All in all not a very flavorful brew, but the quality I expect from such a style is here. A clean and very drinkable Dark Lager and a very beloved style.

Nice dark brownish-reddish liquid. Almost no head. Good roasted malt aroma. Slight bitter hints of scent. Sweet and creamy taste at first mellowing and lingering with a nice wheat toasty aftertaste. Good texture.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2004 Deep, ruby hued mohagany body with dusty brown head. Creamy & smooth, lots of malts in there. Good depth and character. Nuts, caramel, mmmmm... pretty decent hop presence as well. I think that this is one of my favorites from Capital. Nice finish too, hints of barley and something sweet. I'd drink this Dunkel most anytime. Re-rate FEB 2004. more chocolatey than I remember. creamy and very enjoyable, but I'll drop it's overall a bit.

Bottle (thanks to BadgerBen). Pours clear dark reddish-brown with a moderate tan head that diminished fully leaving a trace of lacing. Aroma is rich and roasty, nutty with hints of chocolate. Flavor is sweet and full, dark malts and molasses with a pleasant hop bite in the finish. Medium body and nice carbonation. Overall a very good bavarian style dark.

Nice deeply orangy/red color with an overall brownish tone, thin tannish head that fades leaving a thin haze and very fine stringy lace in small areas of coverage. Smell is soft and light of dark fruits, plum, banana, some nuttyness and creamy maltyness with a touch of light spice. Very subtle in approach on the nose, a bit to light though. Taste is more subtleties of dark fruits, banana, plum, raisin, a touch of sweetness and maltyness, but far to thin and shortly visited, weakened hops near the finish slightly. Feel is thin and lighter medium body, again, it doesn't have any staying power what so ever, just a short memory of what could be. It still makes for good easy drinking.

Clear medium brown body that throw up a large long lasting tan head.
Rich, clean, malty aroma.
Good solid malty sweetness delivered on a medium full body.
Well done, I’ll have another of these please.

Boltled- poured into frosty glass. Light to no head. Dark brownish in color. Oddly Smooth taste for a dark beer. Personaly, I’m not a big fan of dark beers but this beer was a quite enjoyable drink. Not too strong in hops, with a slight chocolate coffee aftertaste.

Tap at the brewery. Ebony with some cherrywood color, light bronze head. Sweet malt nose that lasts. Malty with some chocolate and jam. Hops are forward, making for a bit of sharpness. Well balanced overall. Very drinkable, very tru to style. Few Americans can do this.

Dark Ruby brown with thick head. Malt/ hoppy nose. Creamy rich molasses, front and mid palates feel heavy but finishes very clean. Some hoppiness lingering mixed with sweet molasses.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 redmosquito (172) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - NOV 9, 2004
Nicely carbonated auburn brown colored beer with an off white head. Malty aroma with an estery yeast finish which is almost bock-like. The flavor is nice, roasted malt to toasted bread, with solid bitterness. The beer is creamy smooth and then finishes clean with a little astringency on the tongue. This beer is versatile, I could enjoy it with lunch, at a tailgate, or at the bar.
