COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An authentic German style pilsner, this is Capital’s largest selling beer. A superbly balanced beer, with a firm maltiness alongside hearty hop bittering and flavor notes.

I didn’t find this to be too bad at all, noticeably better than the 1900. Unfortunately even the best Pils will never score big with me because I am just not a fan of the particular style. Typical Pils color/aroma. Medium bitter finish that turned mildly sour. I couldn’t detect much malt at all. I am hoping for better from the rest of my Capital sampler.

Bottle: Clean golden hue with lasting frothy head and above average lace. The aroma has notes of grassy and aromatic hops, bready pale malts, a touch of honey, pear, and dusty esters. The taste starts with a smooth malt nature followed quickly by a nice even balance of bitters. A sublime fruity note adds some depth. The feel is refreshing enough but not as crisp as some would want in the style. A good brew and something I could see trying again.

This poured a golden, near amber color with a small white head. The aroma is grassy with some floral notes and some solid malt sweetness. Very nice malty flavors with a solid hop balance. Fairly dry, crisp finish.

Picked up single bottle from Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul. Pours a light golden honey pale brew with a decent white head that dissolves quick to a fine film. Nice lacing on side. Aroma is light , fruity, roasted grain, a litle citrus, some biscuits and mild sweet hops. Taste is medium body and a little sweeter than most pilsners I’ve tried. Finish is smooth creamy and nice bitterness.

Fairly large, white head. Very few bubbles in this for a pilsner. A little darker than a standard macro. A little hops in the flavor. No Corn!! Still fairly light. I would take this over any BMC. A decent beer from a solid brewery.

Bottle: Translucent yellow, orange tint, small white soapy head, no carbonation, no lacing (cap seemed to come off rather easy, this beer not being the first from Capital, leaving me to believe this one has gone flat.   Lets see where it goes...).   Very soft grassy nose, slight underarm.   Still remains rather malty on the tongue, albeit very still.   Seems to have been okay, but I think it still deserves a rerate.   Otherwise the body of this one is rather big & chewy for a pilsner.   Mouthfeel is... well, rather flat.    Finish is a bit muttled, and the only sign in the flavor that something might be amiss.   It also feels as if its more than just 4.8%.   Problems with the capper maybe?

JPDIPSO (4956) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 25, 2002
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2008 Light golden with a slight haze and smallish white head that sticks to the top of the glass. Aroma of pale german malt and mild noble hops. Flavors of biscuits, and bread. Finish wit a sharp acidic bitterness. More like a cross between a dort. and a czech. pils. To heavy in body and not enough hops aroma for a german pils.

Clear golden color/ white head. Pale, pils malty aromas with mild spicy hop. Light body. Nice honey biscuit, pils malty flavors with a crisp spicy hop finish.

Reviewed from notes. Poured into a pilsner glass. Appearance is straw yellow. Very transparent with a white head with good lasting power. Nose is a bit grainy with some floral characteristics and a bit of an herbal, earthy quality. Taste is light noble hops with grain. Feel is light and crisp and this drinks quite well overall.
