3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber bottle and served in my GI IPA tulip: Pours a deep coppery amber with an frothy head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of caramel, biscuity, bread, corn syrup, grassy and resiny hops, hint of grapefruit and peaches with some boozy notes too. While I like my beers to have some balance this is simply too malt forward, syrupy and sticky with some hop bitterness and fruity components taking a back seat. The mouth feel is lush and heavy, warming booze and a hint of metallic notes. It is what it is, a paint by numbers Midwest DIPA I have seen far too many times before.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber pours a hazy red amber color with steady, creamy off-white head and some lacing. Aroma is full of molasses and sweetness. Taste is mostly sweet and boozy, with slight citrus hops bitterness in the finish. I expected more complexity. Body is medium to full with slight carbonation and a very sticky mouthfeel. This is the most malt-forward, sweetest DIPA of many I’ve tried and slightly disappointing to me.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Amber with a slowly fading large tan head. Floral aroma of hop cones, pale malt and faint pine. Taste of fresh hops, very sweet malt, floral hops and a moderate bitter finish. Odd and not really a DIPA.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Capital Ale House. Orange amber body with a steady, creamy off-white head. Sweet, very sweet, but drinkable. Imperial sugar/extract beer, but the flavor is still OK. Oily, below par for the style. Resinous. Not horrendous, not good. My numbers seem high.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at the brewery beer garden. Deep, dark bronze with a firm head. This is very rich and robust overall, presenting a thick malt, resilient hoppy character, viscous even. The first "Imperial" that lived up to its name on my visit to Wisconsin. (#5137, 7/4/2013)

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle...from my wisconsininnnnnn connection. pours a deep ruby brown( yeah, ruby brown, it’s a color now Brad, fuck off) lasting cream colored head....smells, well of hops, for fucks sake, what else is a iipa going to smell of...yeah, cotton candy, burnt popsicle sticks and the like. so much caramel malt to balance this, that it is like chewing 5 sticks of gum at once. hop flavor is pine, and sugar coated pine. hot alcohol note at the first sip and lingers. but i need booze. i miss walt. fuck all y’all.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour is a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is pine hops with some sweet almost toffee like malt. Flavor is a ok hop with a heavy syurpy malt base. Finish is more of the malt than hops. Not really an IIPA more like a heavy pale ale. I guess this is Capital’s first foray into ales. Needs a little work.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber from Brook Falls Discount. Pours an orangey tan with an orangey-white head. Not much lacing initially, better down through the glass. A good swirl left spots for the duration. Aroma has citrus and pine and some florals. Hoppy! Taste is of sweet pine, bitter citrus and some biscuit. Some caramel malts to the back, but it is subtle and faint. They went hop happy with this one, and it is increasingly more bitter throughout the glass. Finishes fairly bitter, with some sweetness. A bit rough. Not much alcohol presence. One of Capital’s better offerings.
