Dark amber in color with a gorgeous off white head. Aroma is beautiful; hints of banana and caramel malt. The caramel comes through on the palate intermingled with hints of vanilla. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy. This is an absolutely fantastic beer. Definately not a "traditional" porter but it is still a must try! Delightful!

FANTASTIC !!
In fact I find it hard to compare it to anything… very smooth and rich. Almost or wine like in its richness.. Perfect blending of the malts and hop. No harsh after taste or bite.

During a sneek preview - sampled at the brewery, fresh, directly from the aging tank just before the brewery started kegging this new brew. Pours an opaque dark cola brown brew with a decent off-white head that has excellent retention. The lacing is spotty at first but when the brew comes closer to proper serving temperature, the lacing sticks to the glass real well. Aroma of dark roasted black malt, some dark chocolate character, candi sugar and sweet molasses. Taste is full bodied, very little carbonation with flavors of dark roasted malt, candi sugar and some sweet toffee. Finish is extremely smooth, creamy with a sweet dark malt and chocolate aftertaste. Awesome! Brewery informed me that only 30 barrels were made and will be on draught only in Madison and a couple of Milwaukee accounts during November ’07.

Many thanks to skyview for sharing. A solid fruity aroma. Vanilla joints them in a rather dry body. Very solid.

On Tap at Romans. English style cask pump tap. Poured dark brown. Very malty aroma, with citrus and flower hops. Flavor was caramel, some vanilla, a bit of light chocolate. Very good. I liked this one a lot!

On tap at the Great Dane Hilldale. A nice lookin deep brown beer with a hefty head with a good amount of cascading bubbles (without nitrogen!). Tastes of nuts and fruit,-very drinkable (how does Kirby do it?). Not a lot in the breadth of flavor though. Not very true to style, but a very fine beer nonetheless. Hat’s off to Kirby to try this elusvie style!

I mean seriously... who does Skyview kill to get growlers of this stuff?! Dark brown color with a thin head. Slight roasty aroma. Sweet malt and caramel taste with some left over sugars. A slightly bitter finish, along with some nutiness. Very nice!

Purchased 2009 at Binny’s ($2.69/single). 199th Wisconsin beer! Not a dark brown so much as opaque, with some highlights at the corners of my shaker glass. Nice puff of brown foam. Sweet smell from two feet away: kind of heady and with a note of milk chocolate. Closer in I get the grainy smell that has come with some Baltic and regular porters. Slight suggestion of mint from hops? In a word, interesting. The first sip proclaims a malt that seems no more thick than a regular beer, but then it leaves behind some viscosity of an imperial styled dark beer. A slight hint of apple or pear in the background, and some treacle in the malt roast. Being as this is pretty much my substitute for all the Surly Darkness events I’m missing, it fills the bill pretty nicely. Drinking further brings on a slight heady-ness of alcohol, and some chocolate Easter bunny impressions. Sweet, doesn’t demand gentle sipping. A good, strong dark beer.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2008 Another rare one from Skyview. From a growler. Dark brown and there is a thick, but short cream colored head on it. The aroma comes out as it warms, and has sweet, dark fruit and malt. Sweet flavor with malt and yeast, as well as port, plums, cherry, and some oak. Rich, thick palate.
--from a bottle, not as good. it tasted like a bock.
