COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Dark hued version of the style utilizing the addition of amber candi sugar to "Imperialize" the situation. Although honoring our Brewmaster’s wife Barbara, it’s cleverly derived acronym was deemed unacceptably unacceptable.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle is dark brown with thin tan head, aroma brought big notes of dark fruits, caramel and toffee in there all very sweet, some slight bittering roasted malt and a touch of earthy notes as well. Taste is a nice mix of sweet caramel and toffees, roasted malt and some dark molasses, dark fruits in there, finish fairly sweet. Pretty nice.

Pours a dark chocolatey brown. Thin white head. Aroma is very full of chocolate with a bit of nuttyness too. Taste reveals a bit more nut flavor as well. Not too shabby.

Bottle… Pours clear and very dark with crimson flashes and a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The nose is herbal and rooty, providing additional notes of dark fruits and very old port. Full-bodied and a touch oily with pillow-soft carbonation. The flavor is sweet and minerally with nice notes of rock candy and dates. Finishes lightly sweet.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Mug. Appearance: Dark, murky reddish-brown with very thin head. Aroma: Molasses, soy sauce and dark fruits. Very sweet and quite strong until I finished the glass. Taste: Loads of molasses, licorice and soy sauce. Some light roasted characteristics, cherry and plum. While sweet, it is not as sweet as the aroma. Some very light noble hops on the finish help to balance at the finish. Mouthfeel: Moderately low carbonation with a full body. Not quite as chewy or chalky as some other Doppelbocks of this strength (which is good), likely sure to the addition of sugar to lighten the body. Warming and fairly clean. Overall: Another strong Doppelbock from Capital, but not up to the level of Autumnal Fire, or Celebrator for that matter, which it seems to be a higher abv version of.

Bottle shared by CaptainCougar. Clear really dark brown. Toffee in the aroma, but pretty muted with some sweetness. Dark fruits, raisins, malted milk, and a dry bitter, mineral finish. Meidum to thinner body.

12oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear, deep amber colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Pretty color to this beer. Aroma is malty sweet with a good amount of caramel cookies and toffee as well as a nice floral, darker fruitiness. Some nuts, raisin, bread, and molasses. Flavor is similar. Malty sweet again with plenty of caramel cookies, toffee, raisin-bread, and molasses. A nice dark fruit alongside the malts with some nuts, floral fruits, and a hint of toast. Finishes sweet and malty with just a hint of earth to balance as well as a slight caramel candy. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a fuller, very smooth body and soft, medium-light carbonation. Overall, a very enjoyable beer. Very soft and rounded, richer and fuller malts with just enough nutty toast and a hint of earth to prevent this from being overly sweet. Definitely malt forward, but well balanced and easy drinking. Nice one.

12 oz twist off. It pours a dark brownish red with a foamy off-white head The smell is clean and classic, some dark bread, caramel, and a subtle bit of alcoholic sweetness are all that is in there. The flavor is a bit more bold and adventurous. There is a sharp bitterness not usually found in this style. Other than that is is a big, dark doppelbock with lots of dark fruit, dark bread, and caramel. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-13-2011 04:11:12
