COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One of the most unique beers brewed in the United States. A fine, almost nutty flavor complimented by a smooth hop character that combine to make excellent drinkability.

Bottle from Duane: Pour a rich golden hue with a fading fizzy head and some lace. The aroma has notes of noble hops, vegetable, light apple, bready malt, and a hint of honey. Smells like an amped up micro. The taste is pretty straightforward with mild bitterness followed by an equal amount of sweet malts with just a touch of fruit and pepper. The feel is noncommittal, sort of just there. It is heavier than a micro lager but not very crisp. Okay, something my Dad would enjoy yet didn’t cause me to bolt to the hills either.

Bottle. Nose smells like sweet wet cardboard. Taste-bitter, husky, earthy, sod, and cereal. Very nutty and full. Not bad and fairly enjoyable. Overall I really like what they have done here.

pours a light yellow with a bit of gold when held to the light and a fat white head that shrinks to a respectable ring soon enough. straw earthy nose with some raspberry honey notes. taste is pecans and muddy hay. lingering nut flavor that isn’t bad. i was expecting something odd with this one that i would probably not like, but this is an enjoyable beer with a good taste. thanks for the trade, heemer.

Back in the early 1990s, my wife and I happened upon a wild rice brew while on vacation in northern MN. I’m thinking it was from Summit or maybe August Schell. We sat on the rocks looking out over Lake Superior and enjoyed this tasty, refreshing beer while eating smoked fish. Fast forward to 2005 and I find this Capital Wild Rice brew on display in the cooler at Woodman’s in Madison. Hmmm, it’s kinda expensive at $8.69/six pack but what the hey, maybe it’ll bring back fond memories of those vacations...the beer pours a crystal clear coppery golden with a thin white head. Aroma is non-committal. First taste is slightly sweet malt with a hint of spiciness in the background. Mild bittering near the clean finish. Slighty over-carbonated. And like many brews from Capital, this one tastes almost TOO polished, with no flavors standing out. I don’t think it’s a particularly good buy at the price. Maybe I should try a bottle while looking out over Lake Superior, eh?

Pours with a golden body topped by a thin head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a touch of fruit and a slight grassy bitterness. Light bodied and smooth.

Noogfest Small creamy head on a medium yellow beer. Light malt aroma. No real strong stand out aromas or flavors for this one other than some light spicyness.

Bottle. Clear brass body under a thick foamy white head. Sweet bubblegum / almond shell aroma with a light dustiness. Reminds me of their Kloster Weizen. A pepper spice starts the flavor with wheat and nuts following. The spice is again evident in the finish along with some murky noble-ish hops. Now that I think about it the spice is from the heavy carbonation, it’s been a while since I’ve had a beer with this much fizz. This beer drinks a lot like a macro; fizzy with old-tasting hops.

sampled at the 05 Noog fest. This was a plain, simple brew that just didn’t have much going for it. I tasted no wild rice or nuttiness
