3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Amber with a medium quickly dissolving tan head. Aroma of toasted Vienna malt and crystal malt. Taste of caramel, toasted malt, mild fruit and spices. A nicely done Vienna that goes down pretty easy.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours an orangish color with a big head lots of bubbles and plenty of good lace. The aroma is fruity and malty with nutty notes and a light malt sweetness. The flavor is more dry than sweet, a bit boozy with some light saltiness and some good noble hops. I know my rating makes it sound like crap, but I promise this is one fantastic little malty but dry lager.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Never had a skal before. I like it. Thin head but with a pleasant dark apple juice color. Sweet, somewhat fruity nose. A bit of peppery spice hits the tip of your toung first followed by some sweet malts. Smooth mouthfeel, typical of the brewer. Wonderful crisp finish with some lingering spice.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2008 12oz bottle-An amber body with a nice one finger head which has an aroma of roasted malt, a little hops, and a little grassy. Taste was amostly malty with some faint hops and a bit grassy on this light body. Not a big fan of this style but a nice tasting brew.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
In the bottle. Deep golden color. No head whatsoever. Very little carbonation. Something of a pineapple aroma with faint hops. Delightful taste. From the appearance, I wanted to hate this beer, but the flavor wins out. A richness that was unexpected from such a light colored flat beer. Discernable hop palate. I would drink this again. Thanks to Bill Baburek for the gift!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cheers! (Skål)... Capital Winter Skål pours a clear honey color and has a dense, creamy, ivory head. The initial head collapses slowly to a frothy and bubbly crown with nice lacing. The aroma is moderately sweet malt and grain that screams Vienna! The flavor is malty, toffee, and some bisuit. There is some alcohol present in the finish. Average body, fairly smooth and creamy on the palate. Overall I think this is a good Vienna, but unfortunately nothing too spectacular. I was also hoping for something a little more robust with higher alchol for the Winter season...
12 bottle from buckybeer. Thanks Mark!

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2005 ReRate-it had been a few years since i had this beer. my best friend from back home came to my door with a 6er of this stuff. pours an orange hue with minimal white head. is it me or all of capital’s beers slightly under-carbonated? slight tea aroma-vanilla and caramel flavors in the finish. some grainy malt flavors. a good session beer for the winter months.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 17, 2007 12 oz bottle (rerate)
This a rerate of this beer. I picked up another bottle while on a single run to Riley’s. My original score of 3.2 was not far off the mark. This is an average to possibly just above average beer. As it is a seasonal, wait until November/December then pick up a few bottles. If you are looking for a session beer that is not heavy but provides some flavor this is one that will be perfect.
Aroma / Appearance - A huge billowing head resulted from an aggressive pour. When it settled not much was left floating on the top of a deep orange (possibly bronze) colored body. The nose underneath was not as strong a hint of bananas as I remember but it was there. Along with it was orange rinds, peanuts and a trace of simple hops. Some soapiness detracts from the overall experience but not by much.
Flavor / Palate - The body is very thin and watery even for a vienna. The taste of banana nut bread fills the palate briefly before it fades on the throat. An unusual taste of vegetable stew flashes across the palate before a simple finish. On the whole this is extremely unmemorable but safe. If you want something to share with non beer geeks this is a local that might be a nice gateway to other beers. Just don’t expect much from it.
