COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A pleasingly warming beer with it's amber hue showing off it's rich malt heritage. Mildly bittered with a smooth hop flavor complementing the malt. Winter Skal makes a person welcome the onslaught of the cold. Available November through January.

Draught. Clear orange-amber color with thin tan head. Caramel and subtle sprucy hop nose. Hop flavor is overwhelmed by the strong malty caramel flavor and slight sweetness. Spicy aftertase.

In the bottle. Deep golden color. No head whatsoever. Very little carbonation. Something of a pineapple aroma with faint hops. Delightful taste. From the appearance, I wanted to hate this beer, but the flavor wins out. A richness that was unexpected from such a light colored flat beer. Discernable hop palate. I would drink this again. Thanks to Bill Baburek for the gift!

Given the date sampled, this is at least 7 months aged. Pours to a bronze body with a thick white rocky foamy head. Excellent lacing. Absolutely gorgeous. The aroma has tons of raw and toasted grains. The flavor is still good. Toast, hops kinda come off as cask aged even though I doubt it is. Roasted nuts. Very malty. Kinda like Smucker’s made a barley marmalade. :) Tangy (not spoiled). Tea. The palate is pretty moderate yet clean. Doesn’t leave any lingering stickiness.

Clear amber pour with not much of a head. Aroma of crackers, caramel, grass. Good vienna malt flavors with crisp hops. Nice full mouthfeel. Fresh and lively on the palate. Really nice lager that doesn’t fuck around with goofy spices. This beer is like an agnostic’s Christmas .

12oz bottle. Pours a lightly hazed, golden-copper colored body with a thin, beige head that dissipates quickly and leaves a good amount of lacing. Aroma is sweet, bready caramels and toffees with floral fruits and some toast. Some cookies and a very light hop. Flavor is similar. Sweeter caramel cookies and bready toffees with some toast, floral fruits, and a light, earthy bitterness. Clean and dry with a short aftertaste following a light to medium body and soft carbonation. Overall, a pleasant enough vienna. Solid, sweet malts with some toast, fruit, and light bitterness for balance. Not bad.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2008 12oz bottle-An amber body with a nice one finger head which has an aroma of roasted malt, a little hops, and a little grassy. Taste was amostly malty with some faint hops and a bit grassy on this light body. Not a big fan of this style but a nice tasting brew.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2005 ReRate-it had been a few years since i had this beer. my best friend from back home came to my door with a 6er of this stuff. pours an orange hue with minimal white head. is it me or all of capital’s beers slightly under-carbonated? slight tea aroma-vanilla and caramel flavors in the finish. some grainy malt flavors. a good session beer for the winter months.

Pours a darkish orange/amber color. Aromas of roast malts/caramel, sweet smelling. Sweet flavors of caramel with some hops/fruit.

Pours an orangish color with a big head lots of bubbles and plenty of good lace. The aroma is fruity and malty with nutty notes and a light malt sweetness. The flavor is more dry than sweet, a bit boozy with some light saltiness and some good noble hops. I know my rating makes it sound like crap, but I promise this is one fantastic little malty but dry lager.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2004 (12 oz bottle: The Cellars in Roseville, MN) Here in America, with the word "winter" in the beer name, I’ve been conditioned to expect a darker, heavier beer than what I’m getting here, but I knew going into this beer that it’s a Vienna style. A very caramely, moderately sweet, lightly toasty maltiness is the dominant flavor, with a relatively mild hops bitterness lending some semblence of balance. The nose is very malty, with some honey sweetness as well. Medium bodied with a nice round mouthfeel and plenty of carbonation, but the sweetness gets a little tiring on the palate. Dark amber in color and fully clear. The off-white head has good size during the pour, but it dissipates rapidly down to a thin sheen and rim of foam, leaving some patches of lace scattered around the glass. As Viennas go, this is flavorful, fairly malty, somewhat balanced and not sickeningly sweet, so it’s definitely worth a try.
