COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Capitol City celebrated its 2,000th batch of beer with a party at its downtown DC location on Nov. 9. (More specifically, it was the 2,000th batch from its Shirlington brewpub, which supplies beer to the non-brewing H Street locale.) The special brew, dubbed 2G-IPA, is a pungent imperial India pale ale measuring 7.8 percent alcohol by volume and 91-92 international bitterness units. (IBUs are a measure of alpha acid, the primary bittering agent in hops. Normal IPAs might clock in at 60-70 IBUs.)

Cask, Shirlington location Dec. ’10. Hazy burnt tawny brown with a slightly tan head. Lots of passion fruits in the aroma, along with grapefruit, and slightly sweet malts. Passion fruit and grapefruit continue to the flavor, but a hint of garlic sneaks in which detracts. Medium body, subtle carbonation.

On tap at The Brickskeller on December 9, 2010. Brewed to celebrate their 2000th batch. Pours an orangish copper color with a half-finger head that recedes really quickly and doesn’t leave any lacing behind, just a bit of a light collar around the edges of the brew. The nose brings citrus and a bit of resin. The brewer told us this was Cascade and Citra, but I really couldn’t pick out any of the latter at all. The flavor brought a good deal of character, almost bordering on a fresh-hopped green taste. Also a bit of orange grapefruit plus some rind. Medium-bodied with a nice, dry finish, this was probably the best beer of this "holiday" event. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 12-10-2010
