Draft at brewpub. Pours a hazy orange-yellow with little carbonation. Dry with note of bubble gum, clove, and banana. Floral and dry. Bitter finish.

Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, dried fruits and yeast. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Pours a cloudy dark yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is close to homebrew, with some pale malt, yeast and citrus notes. Flavor is kind of like an immature homebrew with that sweet wort dominating - also in the mix is some light fruit, citrus and a sourness in the end that was probably the only interesting thing about this brew. No carbonation to speak of. Meh.

On tap at the downtown brewpub. Pours a cloudy light yellow with a thin white head. No lacing or retention. Aroma is a bit skunky pale malt along with cloves, bananas, bubblegum, pineapple. Taste is very similar to a cross between a hefeweizen and abbey tripel: a bit creamy on the palate with lots of wheat, bananas, coriander, nutmeg, cloves, canned pineapple, light candied fruits, white sugar. Watery body and finish. Not a saison in my opinion though: no yeasty, funky notes. Too much like a witbier.

On tap at Capitol Hill location: Hazy bright golden with a well-lacing airy white head. Aroma of sweet biscuity Belgian malt with a touch of clove and lemon citrus. Starts with good fullness and semi-sweet wheaty pale maltiness with an authentic blend of clove and citrus spice before a drier crisp finish. A pretty good saison.

Shirlington location. Slightly dark copper color, with a nice white head. The beer had a decent aroma, with a slightly fruity body. Flavor was well spiced.

A weak example of the style, poured amber colored with a very small head that didn’t lace well. The aroma was mostly of caramel, not much farmhouse funk in this one. The flavor was built on a backbone of caramel malt and had hardly any peppery spice going on. A forgettable experience, but not terrible.

Small head, but it sticks around. Nice and bubbly. I don’t know why that struck me when I was drinking it, but it did. Nice amber color, but clear, I didn’t see any haze like other folks are writing about. Lingering aftertaste.
