Growler pour courtesy of dkachur. Thanks Dan. Finaly I get the elusive DC tick. Pours a cloudy chestnut brown with a medium sudsy off-white head that has fair retention and some lacing. The aroma is strong with banana, bubblegum, and sweet roasted malts. The flavor is rich and complex with multilayered fruits; banana, cherry, pears--as well as roasted grains, pecans, walnuts, dough and some brown sugar. The palate is a bit thin, but effective and the carbonation is soft. The finish is medium in duration with lingering candied walnuts. Overall: A top notch dunkelweizen. I loved it.

Served on draft at the Shirlington location. Pours a hazy orange-brown color with a medium sized offwhite frothy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of bread, nutty notes and a bit of spice. The taste is banana, clove, bread and a spicy finish. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

On tap at Capitol Hill location. Look is a cloudy brown color. It arrived at my table from the bar, so I did not see it pour. Head was non-existant by the time it had arrived. Aroma is heavy on the malts, with a touch of caramel and a note of chocolate. The flavor was roasted, chocolate, and caramel notes.

Draught at Capitol Hill location next to Union Station. Rich, cloudy brown with clove aroma. Oh my god, awesome mixture of citrus, banana, cloves, malt, etc. Lacing to the bottom of the glass. This is one of my favorites.

Tap at the Capitol Hill location, DC. Cloudy brown colour, slim, soon gone head. Some cloves/bubblegum in the aroma, same for taste with some caramel. Not very well put together though. I shall revert to not straying outside of the Fatherland for Dunkelweizen.

(Draught) Cloudy, deep orange-amber with a fully dissiated head. Fruity malt. Thin and acetic finish.

Cloudy amber with minimal off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet wheat, clove, caramel, banana, lemon peel. Taste is sweet, caramle, banana, wheat -- not especially strong flavor. Lemon in the finish. Watery, medium-light body, some tartness. Strange time of year to serve this beer, seemed a bit overmatched by the weather.

Wow, did this beer blow it. It had a great banana and bubblegum yeast/ester aroma with a very nice chestnut brown appearance. Then the wheels came off. Flabby, watery, brown-sugar-in-water overall nature. Reminded me of Bananas Foster without any rum -- banana, vanilla, brown sugar. Needs more spice or CO2 or something. It's the foundation of a decent beer without the follow-through.
