UPDATED: MAR 18, 2007 (Shirlington, 3/18/07, cask) No notes taken, just a reflection that this beer is every bit as good as I remember it. Lots of caramel/toffee combined with good floral hoppiness. (8/4/8/4/16)
(Shirlington, 12/24/04) Cloudy amber body with beige head, nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, earthy, some pepper. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, earthy, some spice, pepper. Medium bitterness. Dryish earthy finish with light herbal. Light-medium body with some creaminess. Nothing amazing, but a wonderfully balanced beer. (7/4/9/4/17)

I had this beer a while back and from what I can remember I enjoyed it. I’ve had this at the pub/brewery so it was fresh.
Nothing special about it is popping into my head at the moment.

It was alright... fairly standard but unoffensive. Great for the bitter style though.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 molassesfan (202) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - OCT 19, 2006
Pours amber with a large white head. Decent lacing. Aroma of malt and caramel. Taste is the same with some apple, plum, and hops. A bit unbalanced, favoring malt, and a bit flat too. Could use some work.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 whaleman (2178) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 26, 2005
Capitol Hill brewpub. Bright copper body with a sudsy white head. Mild, fruity malt aroma with some weak, earthy and spicy hops. Both toasted and tea-like malts in the flavor plus more hop character than in the aroma. Has a fruity, cooked apple quality that doesn’t exactly please me. Medium bitterness but the sweetness lasts, extending through the finish. Somewhat lackluster for an ESB.
