blindeyedbetty (94), Arlington, Virginia, USA Feb 1, 2008 Beautiful coffee flavored imperial stout! Nice aroma of full-grain fresh coffee, appearance of opaque, thick, black molasses. Flavor of coffee and slight alcohol with some malt and little grains, perhaps oat or wheat. Beautiful balance of flavors with a nice overall weight and balance. Nice bitter-sweet finish. Would be nicely paired with a strong or heavy pasta dish such as jambalaya or fettuccini, but would compliment a dessert such as tiramisu.
pnista (863), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jul 22, 2008 On tap downtown. Darker brown, clearer with a thin dense tan ring head. Coffee stout nose, atypical. A bit of roast, but mostly old McDonalds coffee. Dry, some floral hops. Substantial with low but above average carbonation. Big coffee acidity. Not a ton of coffee depth. Dry. Older coffee. Roast. A little milky. Lingering bitter roast. JoeMcPhee (3643), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 14, 2008 Tap at the downtown location. Very dark black beer with no head at all. The aroma is loaded with rich earthy/fruity coffee aroma. Soft chewy roastiness on the aroma as well. There is a nice light perfumy herbal aroma on the back as well that lends a certain delicate character to the aroma. The flavour is pretty decent as well. Lots of herbal coffee over a slightly peppery (but not hot) base beer. Herbal and roasty without much of the usual cocoa at all. This is a very nice coffee stout. jjpm74 (2760), Connecticut, USA Jun 10, 2008 Pours dark brown with a sparse light brown head. Smells of up front coffee, some bitter touches, hints of chocolate. Tastes like coffee flavored liqueur with some bitterness on the finish. 19641948 (476), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Jun 6, 2008 Poured into a goblet. Pours a deep dark espresso color. A manageable head of mocha. Aromas are pungent with heavily roasted coffee. A touch of leafy hops penetrate. Flavors give the palate a roasty brew with plenty of coffee character shining though. As with coffee, a touch of astringency permeates. The coffee notes certainly do fuel this beer. A multiple goblet afternoon for me. kidmartinek (656), austin, Texas, USA May 19, 2008 Dark opaque brown, small tan head. Smells like dark roasted coffee and pine, and some kind of organic plant leaf of vegetable that I cannot identify. Flavor is like a powerful coffee and maybe a little bit of hops in there somewhere. Mouthfeel is like a porter, skim milk, which is good. This beer is heavy, finish is a little carbonated and rough. You cold chew this one. Coffee lovers, this is your beer.
