Draught at the brewpub. Weak malty aroma. Clear dark amber colour. No head to speak of. The flavour is dark malty, sweetish with a vinous touch. Slightly spicy. Well-made.

Reviewed from notes. On tap at the DC location. Pours a moderate copper color with a light white head and not too much lacing. The nose is some slight bread with a bit of sweetness. Mild caramel notes. The taste isn’t really much other than a bit of light bread. Light to medium body with good carbonation. No faults, but pretty plain and unremarkable. On tap at Capitol City. Pours a clear orange with a thin white head. Nice big sweet caramel note with a bit of toast behind it. Odd sweetness, a bit grainy. Finishes with a nice balancing bitterness. Drinkable, but not memorable.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub, Shirlington location. Pours a clear copper color with a medium creamy head. Excellent head retention and lacing. Aroma is fairly faint with notes of toasted malts and caramel. Taste is caramel, nuts, lightly toasted malts and a slightly bitter, leafy hop finish. Medium bodied. A very well made marzen.

Tap @ Capitol Hill.
Amber color, clear. White head. Spicy saaz aroma. Grassy and a crisp pils malt. Very well balanced. Nice caramel. Light toast. Very stick glass, well made beer. Perfect to style. Finishes with a bit of fruit and a well bittered hop character. Medium bodied.

Malty, with a stale/old/sour flavor. Tastes like old beer. Given the volume at the brew pub, age doesn’t explain it.

Serving: Draft. Appearance: Light copper orange color with a tall, foamy white head. Aroma: Floral notes, toasted malt, a bit of caramel. Flavor: Grainy with some fusel alcohol, cardboard, and metallic notes. Light caramel and toasted malt notes. Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel and a medium-short finish. Overall: This one just wasn’t very good. Definitely skip it.
