Our American style pale ale is medium to full bodied with an assertive hop bitterness and aroma. The flavor and fragrance of American hops mush with a strong malt backbone.

Capitol City Brewing Company, DC 16oz tap ($3.50hh): Pours a copperish color without too much in the way of head. Aroma of citrus and ambiguous flowers, with some obvious pale malt behind all that. Taste is pretty much up the same avenue. A little bit hoppy with the bitterness and the like. Still the mouth feel is nice and crisp and the body is pretty good. Basically this fulfills the criteria of the style to the T, but is not really outstanding in any shape of form.

Pours amber from tap with a thin head. Pleasant floral aroma. Some hop pronouncement on the tongue but the mouthfeel was thin for my taste. Finishes a bit watery.

Reviewed from notes. On tap at the Union Station location. Pours a moderate copper brown color with a bit of a white head. Not much lacing. Nose brings forward some very light citrus and floral hops. A bit of malt. The taste is really light with some very mild hopping. Mostly just some pale malt. A bit of bitterness in the feel. Nothing inherently wrong with this, but it’s fairly run of the mill and quite light. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 11-03-2010

LIght bodied and rather thin in palate. Very crist and refreshing, good hoppiness in the finish, very nice lingering finish.

From a draft pour at the Brewpub on New York Avenue. Pours a clear copper with a medium size foamy beige head, medium retention and very good lacing. Nose of caramel malts,is medium malts and lots of hop aromas including pine, citrus, and flowers and a hint of fruit. Medium body and smooth carbonation and mouthfeel. The flavor is well balanced between malts and hops, with fruit and citrus domination. Dry bitter finish. Very good.

2/20/11. On tap. Clear light amber pour with a small tan head. Slightly citrus aroma with a grainy kick. Sweet citrus flavor with a touch of cat pee and a good hint of apple dishsoap and something astringent. Meh.

Tap, Shirlington. Light orangeish brown body with two fingers of head. Lightly hoppy aroma, even for the style, that’s mostly floral but some citrus kicks in with minimal sweetness. Flavor is definitely on the sweeter side, with candied floral hoppiness, with some light fruit sweetness. Some bitterness does come in, but only at a few very mild points. Medium body, softer carbonation. Just lacking all-around, but nothing offensive.
