3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 TheBeerGod (4675) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - SEP 7, 2005
Had this in a sampler from Capitol City Downtown on September 5th, 2005. Opaque dark brown with a small fizzy tan head. Nose is roasty and laden with coffee. Some interesting burnt brownie notes as well. Taste is much the same but a bit thinner than I’d hoped. Roasty malts, coffee, some dark and milk chocolate notes. Not too bad. Body was too light, and surprisingly so. Finishes light and roasty with some lingering malt and choco sweetness. Not bad, but a bit of a let-down.

Draft. Crackly tan head. Peppy carbonation. Head mostly dissipates by end of pint. Deep dark brown hue. Nice bite - bitterness works well with coffee-like roasty mouthfeel. I had 7 of them, so I would say very enjoyable in multiples. Decent.

A nice, balanced porter of the easy-drinking variety. Chocolaty and slightly roasty and not too sweet.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 shameusburp (171) - Virginia, USA - JUL 1, 2004
Decent porter, a bit over the top roasty but one of their better beers. Great happy hour brew @ $2.50 a pint.

This is a good brewpub beer. This porter had a thick mouthfeel and a nice bitterness. I thoroughly enjoyed my sample in downtown DC even though it did cost me $5.75. I’d probably have this again if it was happy hour. Good beer.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 invalid (302) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 9, 2004
Dark black body, small clinging head. Beer smells sweet with a slight roasty note. The beer is a bit too sweet in the finish for my tastes.

On tap at downtown D.C. location. Your standard brewpub porter here. Good for washing down a meal or a late night nightcap. Dark ruby red appearance, mocha colored appearance. No apparent aroma detected - maybe it was the smoke at the bar. Some cocoa notes, not as much bitterness as I like in my Porters, toned down a bit for the masses. Has a good thick creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a decent Porter.
3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - APR 20, 2004
On tap at the brewpub. This is their best regular ale always available. Fluffy beige head. Ale is black in color. A roasted chocolate stout-like body with a burnt malt after taste. Sweet milk palate. An everyday beer for sure, and with $2.50 happy hour pints in DC it can be!
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 MilkmanDan (1943) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - MAR 13, 2004
Deep red, very little light shows. Minimal head. Roasty, tobacco, bit of molasses. Quite drinkable, smooth and quaffably thin without being watery. Coffee, chocolate, and a milky sweetness at end. Stays a bit dry and smoky in the finish for a pleasantly long while. Admittedly not particularly porterish, its lightness reminds me more of a roasty dunkel than anything else.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 CapFlu (4024) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 11, 2004
(Draught) Slight coal with malt tones. Foamy beige head with dark reddish body. Thin, vanilla, cocoa and tart finish. Average.
