From a draft pour at the Capitol City Brewpub on New York Ave. Came a clear dark brown to black with a medium sized creamy tan head and good lacing. Nose is malts, with chocolate, nuts, dark ripe fruit, and light floral hops. Medium body and creamy mouthfeel. Flavor tends toward the malts with a dry finish.

Draft. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Roasted malty aroma with some coffee. The flavor has roasted malts and some bitter roasted coffee. Pretty good.

2/20/11. On tap. Dark brown pour with reds under a small brown head that fades. Sour malt aroma that leads to a light chocolate flavor with a big coffee punch and a hint of sour. Meh.

Tap at Capitol City. Pours clear dark brown to black with a medium, creamy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (nutty, toffee, chocolate), light hops (woody), and average esters (dried fruit) with notes of dates, plum, and wood. Flavor is heavy malt (nutty, chocolate, toast), light hops (woody), and average esters (dried fruit) with notes of paper, dates, and plum. Medium body, carbonation, and creaminess, low warmth and a dry finish.

Very Dark but clear amber color, with no head but a little lacing, Plenty of smoke and peat and a balanced carbonation make it a nice porter.

Tap at Downtown. Pours dark brown with a thin filmy brown head. Nose is roasted malts, coffee, touch of vanilla. Quite robust. Mouth is malty, roasted, even slightly sour. Chocolate, coffee. Towards the end an almost powdery mouthfeel. Could be better, but good effort.

At a local restaurant in DC area. Dark brown pour with a thin mocha head of lace. aroma is suppressed by the cold temp. Mildly roasty. flavor is slightly bitter, some roast and just a bit of chocolate. Pretty standard American porter.

Dark brown, tan cover. Aroma is thin, light roast. Taste is chocolate, lots of roast, nice. Smooth full body.

On tap at Arlington Pours a dark brown with a creamy tan head. The head lasts okay and laces well. Has a decent aroma of coffee and roast. The carbonation is good. Flavor is light but good. Not real thick but hits all the important flavors. It is right where a porter should be. The texture is watery. Has a medium body. The finish is okayy as is the aftertaste. This was tasty but could have been more involved.

On tap at Capitol City. Pours a deep dark black with a thin tan mocha head. Nice big roast with a touch of coffee. A little bit thin, but nice fine carbonation helps mask it a bit. Big coffee flavors, with more roast malt. Finishes light and with some nice roast bitterness.
