COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An English style robust Porter with huge malt notes from Chocolate and Black malt matched with a huge use of Crystal malt to lend ruby hues to the corners of the glass. This dark brew is then highly hopped with imported Northdown and First Gold hops to lend a subtle earthiness in character.

Pours dark brown, barely translucent, with a dark cherry tint when held to light. Head is under an inch but holds well. Aroma is of medium dark malts, slightly roasted and a little sweet smelling, with some nuts and some chocolate. Flavor is of heavily roasted malt, milk, and coffee, and develops a little bitterness. Mouthfeel is skim milk-like, like most correct porters. Lacing is pretty wicked and abundant. Finish is kinda harsh, burns a little going down.

Draft at the brewpub (downtown location). Poured a nearly opaque, dark brown color with only some orange coming through around the edges. The head was light tan. Aroma was of subdued chocolate. The flavor was a bit more complex with dark chocolate chip, light vanilla, and modest roasty malt. Some bitterness emerged at the end. Not bad.

Growler, thanks to after4ever. Pours almost clear, blackish brown with a thin light tan head. Lots of coffee on the nose with a roasty malt background. Medium body and light carbonation, probably due to the growler age. Coffee and nut taste, and a little pine shows up in the finish.

Growler via trade. Thanks, Blindeyedbetty! Pours black with a thick, moussy, sudsy tan head. Plenty of lace on the way down. Big roasty nose with a light accent of dark fruit. Medium, slightly fizzy body. Roasty, charcoaly mid-palate with a long charcoaly finish. Could definitely stand a bit more complexity in the mid-palate, but as it is, it has a lot to recommend it as a nice drinkable porter.

On tap at Capitol Hill. Foggy brown, tan lacing. Smells of brown sugar and cafe au lait. Taste is coffee, mild chocolate and club soda. A bit thin.

Pours black with smal tan head. Aroma sweet and malty. The flavor has a bit of fruit and not much bitterness. Body light to medium. Ok but nothing special

On draft at DC location. Dark brown color with tan head. Roasty malt aroma. Light to medium body. Flavors of chocolate and coffee with a dry, bitter finish. Pretty typical, but just what I was looking for after a long day of walking the city.

Had it on draft at the Baltimore location. Black with a light brown head. The porter has some citrus hints against the almost chalkiness. This is my favorite American Porter.

Sienna brown pour, dark enough to ban the light for the most part. Surprisingly dynamic and strange aroma; dog food, brown rice, and berries in dirt initially. Moments of bright citrus and strawberries, becoming quite pleasant, and leading into hazelnut skin. An afterthought of cucumber. Husky flavor of wild rice and honey. Root beer candy and black licorice give way to a slow coating of plastic and wet bark; mildly astringent at the end. Palate could stand for a fuller and smoother sentiment; as is, thin and brisk with overactive carbonation. Likens itself to a thoroughly detailed and complex sarsaparilla more than anything else. Sweet, rustic; a very solid light porter.
