Draught at the brewpub. Mild roasted aroma, slightly smoky. Cloudy dark amber colour. Very small head. The flavour is mildly smoked, turns a bit like nicotine, but in a good way. A bit of barnyard, stable. More of a smoked than a Scotch ale.

Sampled at GABF 2010. Pretty Meh Scotch ale. Aroma is caramel and nuts. Flavor is nutty too, but more of a husky variety. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick, but kind of flabby because of lack of carbonation. Didn’t really do much for me. Much like Washington DC in general.

unclemattie (3349) - Georgia, USA - NOV 6, 2009
Tap @ Capitol Hill.
Copper / deep amber color. Light tan head. Flavor has a bold toasted malt. Followed by dry earth, fresh autumn leaves flavor. Aroma is full of toasted grains.

GT2 (3954) - Washington DC, USA - OCT 14, 2009
On tap at the Union Station locale. Pours an unclear reddish amber with very little head (due to the idiot pouring), but there is some okay lacing from what remains. Aroma is roasty, nutty, cocoa. Taste is incredibly sweet, lots of cloying alcohol, artificial cherry syrup. Overall sort of medicinal, syrupy, unbalanced, and poorly executed.

Dansting (222) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - OCT 9, 2007
From a growler. Poured a slightly cloudy purplish brown color with a thin, white head. Aroma of instant coffee. Flavor is pretty malty with a touch of caramel and maple to it. Finish is almost smoky. A decent offering.

Holdwine (1012) - Beertimore, Maryland, USA - MAR 17, 2005
Brackish looking. No real aroma. Big mouthfeel, yet antiseptic in nature. Follows with an offputting sweetness. Strange (and not in a good way) brew.

argo0 (9224) - Washington DC, USA - FEB 12, 2005
(Shirlington) Hazy copper body, with beige head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, syrup, some cherry. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, some maple, smoke/peat, light earthy. Creamy light-medium body.
