this is a light version of the Flemish Sour style with a taste of cherry ...it seems light on the sour but the mix they use to create the sour profile has such a depth that it does not need to be overly sour...

Draft @ Brickskeller, labeled "Tart Cherry." I assume this is the same beer. Pours a slightly hazy, cherry-peach color (hard to see much in here); off-white head with fine-bubbled lacing. Very mild tartness in the aroma: cherry juice and some sugar; nothing sticky and a clear expression of the fruit. Medium mouthfeel: just a bit of cherry tartness; cherry juice and red fruit; a bit syrupy and one-dimensional in its cherry character. Medium, doughy and cherry candy in the finish.

2/15 RFD tasting: It’s a cherry beer, so it’s red with a light cherry aroma. It’s also a lovey sour, with a night light/sweet flavor. A decent belgian style beer.

Shirlington location.copper/amber color. Aroma is slightly sweet, with a slight cherry hint. Overall this beer was good, but I guess I was expecting more sour than I got, that could have been due to me having really sour beers this past weekend.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2007 Sampled on draught, at the Shirlington, VA location. Pours to a beautiful, bright, amber color, with a tight white head that fades, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose is inviting, with light aromas of funky yeast, sour cherry, and oak. The palate offers much of the same. Flavors of sour cherry, oak, pale and sweet malt, marry with mild, funky, yeast flavor. This beer finishes with more of those flavors up front, then ends with a refreshing, oaky/sour cherry flavor that lingers. A nice domestic example of a Flemish red. I would have enjoyed more intese flavor, and aroma, but this is a very, very drinkable version of a style that has a select audience. I applaud Cap City for taking a stab at this beer style.

(Shirlington) Enjoyed at the RFD Strong Beer Tasting. Nice even red color. Lovely full aroma of cherries (not too heavy on it so perhaps they’ve changed it around). A fine full taste led to a pleasant mix of beer and cherries. Just the right amount of cherries too. Not being a fan of the Flemish Sour Ale style I was extremely pleased with this interpretation.

(Shirlington) Off-white head atop crystal clear copper body. Aroma is medium sweet, cherry, some wood, light sourness. Taste is medium sweet, cherry, some wood, light sourness, faint caramel. Light-medium body with light stickiness. Borders with what my memory recalls as Shasta Black Cherry soda -- not enough sourness with the cherry.
