Draft. I am absolutely sure I had this one, though my notes I’ve kept from my trips to Capitol City over the last year or so have disappeared. What I remember of it (I distinctly recall having a Wee Heavy on tap because of the "odd" name) is that it poured a brownish color, had a quite refreshing flavor. Notes of caramel, touch of alcohol. I’ll see if I can’t update this in the future.

On tap at ODBF 2004... This beer rocks!... Sparkling clear, mahogany ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Weeping lacework. Aromas of molasses, maple syrup, toffee, port and wood. A hint of smoke. Decently balanced flavor. Sweet and malty, but also tangy and well-bittered. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, semi-sweet, astringent finish. Well done!

On tap at Old Dominion Brewfest. Pours a dark reddish auburn. Aroma is roasty. Taste is sweet with caramel malt, a good dose of hops, brown sugar, chocolate, dark fruit and smokiness. Noticeable alcohol content but it doesn’t negatively impact the brew. Mouthfeel is very full, round and creamy. Nice.

Dark brown pour with a reddish tint to it. For a scotch ale, I like to taste a bit of peat butt didn’t notice any in this. Medium bodied and a bit smoky. Dried fruits and light caramel tastes. Nothing remarkable.

Deep brown with a purple-ish tint, very little head, lots of toffee, caramel & sweet malty flavors, very smooth & drinkable, a slight hint of smoke in the finish along with more malty caramel flavors, a nice Scotch ale

Setting: Served on tap in a pint glass at the brewpub. Appearance: Über-dark crimson - almost black - topped by a modest off-white head that goes to a film of small bubbles right quick. Leaves small splotches of foam as remains of the day. Aroma: Caramel and toffee malt sugars with hints of prunes. Flavor: Intensely malty and sweet. Caramel and pruny/plum flavors dominate the mouth. Kind of a simple taste. Some roasted or smoked malt flavors would have been welcome. Palate: Rather heavy in body with lingering sweet aftertastes. Overall: A little bit on the cloying side with the sweetness, but not horrifically so.

Had this on draft at the Manayunk event. 8% alcohol. Pours dark brown, with aroma of malt and toffee. Tastes very malty with an underlying sweetness. Slightly tart finish. This is a scotch ale, but it has some flemish sour and some belgian dubbel qualities. Nice complexity. One of the top beers at the Manayunk event, in my opinion.

a nice dark ale. a tad bitter with a heavy flavor. Never got a scottish feel to it... more of a strong ale or a bitter. Still a good starter beer...

Super dark brown colour with a thin light brown head. Sweet aroma of chocolate, coffee, plentiful sugars and roasted malt. Medium-bodied; Roasty flavours favouring sweet malt and some bittering qualities. Aftertaste shows the coffee and dark chocolate flavours while still having sweet characteristics. Overall, a nice beer-sweet and still roasty-well done and a good one to try this season! I had this from a growler purchased from the location in Shirlington (Arlington), Virginia by my sister's fiance. I tasted this on 30-November-2003.
