3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 dmac (2658) - Toms River, USA - MAR 10, 2011
750 ml bottle straight from the brewery thanks to wildman Dean!!! Poured a black body underneath an average to slightly smaller beige head with some nice lacing. Aroma of coffee, hops, citrus, vanilla and alcohol. Flavor of coffee and cream, dry vanilla, roastiness and alcohol. Body has some serious fizziness along with a fuller body that lingers nicely. This was a very decent beer however the alcohol is far from hidden and I wonder what some ecent age will do to this beer??

Overall : Not bad but nothing special. Nice malt but a bit too astringent.

Bottle. 25.4 oz. Shared with Pat and the grizzly bear. Pour is a straight Coca-Cola black with a rich, velvety smooth bubbled seafoam head; the head looks like the blown back side of rough waves. Lacing is geographical, forming shapes like continents in tight bubbles down the sides. Aroma of honey, caramel, burnt roasted malts, coffee beans, peppercorn, and slight bready, yeasty dough. Full, rich, luxuriously smooth and tongue-coatingly warm body. Excellent finish with a bit of boozy warming that blooms in through the throat and into the chest. Rich chocolate, caramel, fresh orange flavors abide throughout. What a spectacular beer.

My Bottom Line:
Caramel, bread and earthy coffee are balanced out by pine-y hops in this rich yet soft strong ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the dark Brown blackness.
-Roasted malts contribute plenty of bitterness as well.
-Carbonation is soft but effervescent.
-This is quite flavorful and fun, but in small quantities.
Bottle.

Bottle: Poured a deep dark burgundy brown color ale with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of pine and astringent hops with notes of caramel malt with some toffee notes. Taste is a complex mix between some pine and astringent hops with some sweet malt notes with some caramel and toffee notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting though not something I would feel the need to drink on a regular basis.

Sadly this one was infected. Bottle was an immediate gusher. Aroma was brett, nuts, toffee. Taste was overwhelming brett which took over the beer. boo

Gusher, could be infected tough to tell is the aroma is Brett or herbal hops. Great malts, hoppy finish.

Courtesy of Dallas. Pours a nice looking mahogany with tan head. The aroma offers up roasted malts, molasses, some chocolate notes, some spicy black licorice followed by a bit more chocolate. The taste has the same general notes but with a modest tart sense too. The mild tartness and roasted malts, molasses, spicy black licorice and chocolate all blend and mix nicely. Nice brew.

Ruby colored brew with musty and complex hop aromas. Nice chewy mouthfeel with caramel and aggressive hop character without harsh notes. Awesome beer!

Bottle at the tasting to celebrate my son’s birth. Thanks to Dallas. Pours a dark red color with a small white head. The aroma is awesome; rich fruits, some roast and smoke. The flavor is similar; akin to a English BW; toffee, sweet fruit, very malty, light smoke. Complex and damn tasty. Awesome, I dig these types of beers. Lots of sweet fruity hops.
