3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jrallen34 (3445) - Chicago, USA - MAR 26, 2011
The beer pours a light clear brown with pink highlights. The head is watery and there is no lacing.
The aroma is way to light only showing off a little citrusy grapefruit.
The taste is not good. It just tastes like some grapefruit juice with a bad carbonated bite at the end.
The feel is terrible like suped up carbonated water blowing up in your mouth, but in a bad way.
This beer is like a sparkling water. No flavor, terrible feel, and just boring one notedness.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 HonusWagner (796) - Florida, USA - FEB 26, 2011
A pretty solid if confusing sour beer, kind of like a lesser Veritas 006. A fruity blend of raspberries, peaches, and grape, but a bit sharp on the tartness.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 vtafro (1629) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - MAY 6, 2010
Draft @ NotB. Light peach colored pour with some white head Citrus, some peach, funky aroma. Flavor needs some time to settle down a bit acetic, and some light balsamic notes ends with peach sour.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 2, 2010
A Sim rate (Extreme Beer Fest Night of the Barrels): Smells almost spicy, but maybe that’s the hot & sour still in my nose! Slight sourness, ripe fruit: raspberries, maybe cherries. Real sourness in the finish. This is one of the beers I went back for again and again.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - MAR 3, 2010
EBF NOTB Draft. Pours a hazy peach body with thin carbonation. Dry citrus and peach y notes with leather and cheese. A sour balsamic note thats just a bit nutty in its undertones and comes with a moderate acidity and a tart peach finish.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 j12601 (4435) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - FEB 28, 2010
Pouring at EBF’s Night of the Barrels. Fruity, vanilla, sour funk. The soft fruit and vanilla are slightly overpowered by the acetone, nuttiness, and acetic qualities. A touch sweet. Needs time but shows promise.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Glouglouburp (4781) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 27, 2010
In short: A muddy, fruity, tart sour-ale of some kind. Intense and pleasantly messy.
How: Cask at Boston Extreme Beer Fest 2010. Night Of The Barrel session.
The look: Cloudy blonde-orange body topped by a few big foam bubbles acting as a head
In long: Nose feels very sour, fruity and with notes of sports-locker. Intriguing. Tate is sour ripe fruits, pineapples, citrus and other fruits. Something pleasantly “weird” that I couldn’t put into words. Medium-high sourness and tartness level. Low carbonation. I really did not get that clean, crisp, under-controlled sensation that I usually get from “normal” Captain Lawrence sour ales. This felt like a improvised blend of stuff that was aged in some random barrels with some random fruits. Not a clean crisp brew by any means, it felt rather muddy/messy. But the ends justifies the means and the beer was actually quite nice. So the end-result was declared as the intended result. If Captain Lawrence had been captain of the Titanic he would have said “we’re stopping for ice”.

2oz tasting at NOTB
Appearance : hazy yellow no head.
Aroma : Tart, acidic and sour. A bit lactic and
Taste : Sour, acidic and lactic. Finish is lactic and tart. Dry.
Overall : Not too lactic for me, very good. Got better as I went thru the glass. Tasted right after RR Beatification and Allagash Coolship and those were better than this one.
