Growler shared by Jay. Deep amber-brown pour. The nose is intensely balsamic with a lot of acetic tartness over a bright woodiness. There is a sort of soft spicy barnyard character along with a little bit of earthy character and some light fruit. Even a touch of dark honey flavour along with a weird tartness. This is a strange beast – no doubt about that.

growler shared by J. Thanks buddy! Dark, cherry pour, huge tartness, wood and funk and cider vinegar and also some lactic hints in there.Tingles the jaw and esophagus. Nice, but intense.

Growler shared by Jay. Dark brown with a mild head. Big acedic sourness smacks you in the face straight away, with a drawn out puckering burn followed by blueberry and strawberry fruitiness. Thick bodied and nutty, like many CL sours, the brash vinegar-like sourness takes no time showing you who’s boss. Quite similar to all of CLs young sours, and Rosso specifically, and though good, CL is beginning to bore me a bit with the lack of variety.

From a growler. Thanks for sharing Jay. Sour and slightly sweet nose with some hints of vinegar. The sour hits the back of your throat a bit hot. Sour notes are solid but this feels a bit like it needs some tweaking. It tastes like a brown ale at times then is immensely sour and a bit acetic. Good, interesting but not great.

On tap at the opening of the Birdsall House in Peekskill. Single barrel, kegged for Birdsall, so different than the bottles, which was a nice surprise when I got there and then found that I would get to try two new CL sours instead of one. Pours a very hazy brown with a medium to thick tanned beige head. Nice funk, light fruit, wood. Medium bodied, smooth and lightly sweet, some cherry and berries, funk. Reminds me a bit of Ommegang’s Rouge, and that’s definitely a good thing. Not as sweet, and much more tart. Really long lingering tart acid, slight nuttiness, tannic wood notes, loads of acetic acid. Gorgeous. Finish on here is ridiculously long, in the couple of minutes range.
