1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
In short: An ugly ugly mess that almost defies description
How: Bottle 750ml. Exact age unknown. Consumed approximately one year after the first rating. Was it brewed more than once? Montreal tasting session
The look: Cloudy dark amber body topped by a very small beige head.
In long: Nose of dirty socks, sweat and wet cardboard. Taste of rotten apples, sweetened canned green peas, acidity, sweat, walnuts, more… I could go one but it is useless. Suffice to say that this beer is a total mess. And I LOVE Captain Lawrence. Oh boy, what the hell was that? This beer by itself disproves Darwinism that we are evolving as a specie.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle... Poured dark reddish/ruby with a thin head. I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Lots of sweet tones and dark fruits. Plum-like, cherry-like, and a little vinous with the more tart yeast tones. Some dark sugar tones that lent to a little bit of oxidization, but I enjoy oxidization flavors so no complaint form me there.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and brettanomyces. The flavor is sweet and sour with notes of caramel, malt, and brettanomyces, leading to a lightly tart finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Reviewed from notes.
Pours brown with a crimson hue. Off white head with a touch of lacing. Fairly long lasting head. Nose is dark fruits, tart cherries, and some light caramel. Nose is slightly tart with some nice fruits and dark sugars. Taste is a bit more plain with the intensity falling off compared to the nose. Good body and nice tartness. A nice twist on the style.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml bottle shared by Eloi.
Appearance : Amber with a small head.
Aroma : Light oxidation with slightly roasty notes. Some stinky feets. Nutty.
Taste : Interesting tartness and sourness. Roasty and nutty.
Overall : This is a very weird mess. Not cohesive at all. Weird. Interesting because it’s a bit sour/tart but nothing more.

2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
My Bottom Line:
Chestnuts and chick peas merge into old apples before surprising tartness emerges from the mess.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the cloudy beige.
-Sweat is also evoked in the aroma and flavor profile. Obviously, something went awry with the chestnut honey...
-The acidic tartness and chestnut honey are really not harmonious.
-The mouthfeel is softly effervescent with a strange combo of unfermented sugars and tartness. This should not have been released...

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Haven’t been a fan of this on the numerous occasions I’ve tried it. Grainy and spicy and just kind of weird to drink. Haven’t really liked any chestnut beers, come to think of it.
