COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“Fermented with our house Belgian-style Ale strain to impart the classic fruity and spicy flavors of a traditional abbey ale. Infused with imported Italian chestnut honey and jam to create rich and smoky undertones. Re-fermented in the bottle using even more Italian chestnut honey to give the beer its lively carbonation.”

Tasted on a random November Saturday in 2011 from a capped 750mL bottle obtained in a trade. Pours cloudy copper-orange with a thin tan head that leaves a bubbly collar of lace. The nose is pretty light, with strawberry, cranberry, and nutty, meaty chestnut. The flavor is lightly sour with some honey malt, chestnut, cranberry and strawberry. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long lightly sour cranberry and honeyed malt finish.

Received in trade from AlpineBryant, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a deep, clear mahogany color with a decent tightly bubbled white head that shows minimal retention and lace. Smells of rich caramel, slightly tart aroma reminds me of lemons, fig and prune and maybe a hint of non descript nut. Taste is sugary, tart, and fruity. A lemony tart fruitiness pierces the tongue right up front. Caramel, brown sugar and bread come up next then a prune fig kind of thing mixes with the spicy yeast in the finish. Spirited level of carbonation, medium body, slick sweet mouthfeel. This was decent but the tartness was unexpected. Its possible I sat on this bottle too long.

Pours a dark garnite/brown, with medium clarity and frothy vanilla ice cream head. Nose- the belgian yeast is quite strong imparting a significant spiciness. Taste- its taken on off sour flavours along with fruit jam and dry finish. I’m thinking this has some level of infection to it as the flavour profile is nothing like what the description of the beer is. very strange stuff...

An interesting beer. Copper brown with a finger of sandstone head. Nutty nose with a light sweetness. Kind of like a dubbel with some caramel and toasted grain.Enjoyed it alright but not mind numbing.

LL edition. This one varied quite a bit from the one last year especially since its more of a pale/wheat offering. The color is pretty light, not quite adjunct lager light, but looks refreshing. A heavier citrus/grapfruit on the nose than I was expecting. Palate followed through with big citrus and acidity mid palate, but the finish was super long with bright flavors. I’m fairly confused if this is really a good beer for the warm summer months, looks refreshing but ends up being a bit heavier. Decent offering.

In short: An ugly ugly mess that almost defies description
How: Bottle 750ml. Exact age unknown. Consumed approximately one year after the first rating. Was it brewed more than once? Montreal tasting session
The look: Cloudy dark amber body topped by a very small beige head.
In long: Nose of dirty socks, sweat and wet cardboard. Taste of rotten apples, sweetened canned green peas, acidity, sweat, walnuts, more… I could go one but it is useless. Suffice to say that this beer is a total mess. And I LOVE Captain Lawrence. Oh boy, what the hell was that? This beer by itself disproves Darwinism that we are evolving as a specie.

Bottle... Poured dark reddish/ruby with a thin head. I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Lots of sweet tones and dark fruits. Plum-like, cherry-like, and a little vinous with the more tart yeast tones. Some dark sugar tones that lent to a little bit of oxidization, but I enjoy oxidization flavors so no complaint form me there.
