Early afternoon imperial pint from Mugs Alehouse in Brooklyn. Clear gold pour with a thin white head. Crisp hops on the nose and a mild honey sweetness. Taste is pleasant crispness as well. Mild floral quality. Perfect for 1pm.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is one of my favorite styles, especially this time of year. 12oz bottle, no date that I could see, poured into a stemmed lager-glass. Pours a straw gold with a thin white cap. Fair spotty lace clings to the glass. The aroma is earthy and "green." Slight veggie scent, with a bit of green hops.
Cool crisp bite to this. Carbonation level uplifts this "light" beer making this one quite zippy and refreshing. Great flavor profile of mild bittering hops, creamed corn, fresh bread - all melded together beautifully. This beer really hit the spot. Were this a local offering, I’d have a sixer of this on hand most anytime during these warm months.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Delicious looking crystal clear golden ale with a 1-incher dense ivory head and a very honest bubbling activity. Grainy, bready, rather fresh nose for a bottled Kolsch where just a touch of fruity esters do show up. Despite appearing very bubbly, the first impression in mouth is the surprise at the bubbles’ softness. They are soft and creamy, rather than crisp and sharp, making the texture a bit loose and untight and giving it an impression of cerealic roundness that is not unpleasant. A whisper of spicy German hops bring that deployment to an end, leaving a fading, moderate bitterness that cuts through the malts. Perhaps not the most authentic Kolsch in terms of texture especially, but still a neat drinker, like a fruity helles, I’d take more than one pint of in the right circumstances.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Think of a standard Kolsch, but add a reasonable amount of bodyfeel. Quite possibly the best example of this style I have tasted, would not be out of place in a brewery tap on the Heumarkt.

Aroma is yeast, grains and a hint of a hard to describe spiciness. The flavor is mildly sweet malts/grains and a dry and mildly hoppy finish.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clear bright yellow. Tall frothy white head. The aroma is lemon, grassy, crackers, maybe a whiff of honey. Pretty full bodied for a Kolsch. Flavors of lemon, Noble hops, earthy, vegetal. The finish offers a lingering bitterness. One of my favorite summer styles from one of my favorite NY breweries.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Half Time. Pours gold with a creamy/fizzy white head. Aroma is floral, maybe with a hint of pale malt. Med body. Flavor is floral, touch of citrus, somewhat bready. There’s more content to this than many Kolsches. Captain Lawrence doesn’t skimp. Finishes bready/citrus with a decent amount of bitter.

3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draught. Biscuit malt on the nose, Sweet on the palate, some earthy character, smooth slick mouth feel, similar to a cream ale. Uninspiring.
