COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who arenít afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA. Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captainís Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

Bottle. Peaches, orange, lightly tropical, a bit of pine. Crackery malt. Sny gold, hazy, light lacy head. Sweet, biscuity, lots of rich fruit, apricot, mango, orange, some mango stink. Nice balance, very drinkable, great fruit. Lovely. Silky.

16 oz Bottle. The beer pours golden with a medium white head. The aroma is very strong with floral & citrus notes to it. The taste has a mild body to it with a medium bitter finish. Overall a very good DIPA.

A: Mildly Hazy Golden Straw Hue, Passes A Lot of Light, White Head Ring, Decent Lacing S: Floral, Piney, Mild Malts T: Piney, Resin, Mild Grapefruit M: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Bitter, Dry Overall, this would be a great IPA but they list it as a DIPA and it kind of lacks from that aspect. Good but not great.

Golden color with small off white head. Aroma hops of the citrus kind with some grainy malt. Medium body, little alcohol of note. Flavor matches aroma with mostly citrus hops and tending toward the dry bitter side. Good.

Nose improves as it warms. Started out grainy, boozy, with pine and a touch of citrus. A bit more of a pine / citrus split as it warms. Clear and gold. Hop dominated taste but nice full bodied mouthfeel is the prize here, a bit silky, a bit chewy. Alcohol hidden in taste. Not bad, I was expecting more, but not bad.

A 0.5l bottle @ Tribeca Tavern, NYC. A really lovely looking fluffy big white top on this one. Looks like a be from the comics books, and the body is as good as clear and golden in color. Fantastic hoppy and sweet fruity aroma. Really peachy with lots of mango and mango zest. Lots of pine and pine cones also. Smells as archetype-correctt as it should. Lovely. The pine continues in the taste. Lots of it. The mouthfeel heel is to my surprise a bit light, thin oily i guess and the carbonation is quite soft. Lots of sweet sticky malt sweetness with a floral touch in the finish. Quite easy to drink considering the imperialism of it. 14.06.2013

This is a very nice double IPA, kind of a variation of a West Coast IPA. I wonít hesitate to put this into my rotation of IPAs and double IPAs going forward with Firestone Walker Double Jack, Sierra Nevada Hoptimum, etc. If you like double IPAs or pale ales, you canít go wrong here.

Pours a golden orange with a large lasting off white head with good lacing. Sweet caramel malt, earthy herbal and pine hops along with some mellow citrus notes fill the senses and taste buds. a medium to full body, smooth with moderate carbonation. Has a good caramel malt background with good earthy herbal hops and citrus notes for balance on the end, has bit of a hop kick at the end. A very good, smooth drinking and tasty brew.

Reviewed 9-9-10 There was a Captain Lawrence tasting over at Pizza Paradiso in DC a couple of months about and I missed it... Drat! I really wanted to be there because I had never sampled a CL product before. Last week, I was in "Connecticut Ave. Wine, Liquor, & Deli" and found this gem. Funny...I never even knew the area got CL products. Then again, I guess DC can get anything. The bottle looked fresh (no dust, on the front row, etc.), so I grabbed it and here we are: A: Medium Yellow-orange color, with about 1/2 inch head, which became foamier after subsequent pours. That sucker lingered throughout the session - Yikes! T: Pretty sweet, which muted some of the grapefruit bitterness. Maybe a little bit of peach? Very flavorful! M: Coats the mouth pretty heavily, and starts to overstay its welcome a bit towards the end. I kept a glass of water handy. D: I had no trouble finishing the bottle, although the intense syrupiness was a bit much. But hey....this is a reserve beer with a 9% ABV. What was I expecting?...a Dortmunder? Overall, a delicious beer session!
