3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 thebaldwizard (1203) - Ohio, USA - MAR 3, 2007
Light citrus and earthy hop aroma. Murky golden brown body. Medium palate. The taste is very bitter with some malt--but not well balanced. The hop bitterness controls this beer too much. If you want a straight on hop attack--then this is your beer.

Growler acquired in trade with jjpm74 (thanks!). Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of pine, caramel, toffee candy, oranges, and had a light woody/earthiness to it. Tastes of caramel, citrus, pine, ’leafy’, and grapefruit. Decent balance. Smooth and creamy body. Another Captain Lawrence beers that I’m impressed with!

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this growler. Pours a lightly hazy golden orange with an average off white head that left some lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, hard candy, tropical fruits, orange and pine. Flavor of pine, grapefruit, lemon, yeast, caramel, biscuit, cereal grains and a decent hop bitterness. Lots of hop bitterness and flavor.

The initial aroma of hops is not overwhelming but pleasantly strong. In the first sip the hops assault the rear taste buds. The flavor is quite hoppy and smooth. A very nice version of a Double IPA, both on tap and in the growler.

Growler and hand bottle (both arrived the same day. What are the odds?) It poured a hazy amber color with an off-white head. the aroma was hop forward with earthy, sweaty, and citrusy hops. Nice caramel malt underneath. Hints of candy. The flavor matched the aroma except for more of the malt and less of the hop. medium bodied. Drinks nicely.

UPDATED: OCT 23, 2007 Growler from puzzl. Hazy amber/orange color with very small lacing type head. The aroma is of the citrus fruits, oranges, apricots, mango, and pine. The taste was the same as the aroma with good hoppy bite. Malty and smooth with nice hop finish. As this warms the alcohol is more detectable in the taste and aroma. Very good brew.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2010 2010-04-04, bottle, 8-4-9-5-18=44 Colden bright color; nice perlage, very small bubbles; medium sized head. The aroma is intense, with strong toffee; the hops are very piney, but also with a touch of vanilla and cookies. Excellent toffee flavor, with some residual sugars, but the body is quite lean; there is some cake flavor too; very strong bitterness, fresh hopping, creamy and biscuity, with soft fruits and soft resins. Powerful but harmonious.
2006-12-31, draught at Hop Devil, NYC, 8-5-9-5-18=45 Cloudy amber color; creamy head. Very nice hoppy aroma, with resins and fruits (delicate grapefruit). Good malty body, with an excellent aromatic and powerful hopping, with a lot of hop oils. Smooth and elegant. Excellent!

Poured a clear, golden amber color with a small, off white head that left sticky lacing on the glass. Aroma of pine, marijuana, resin, floral hops, caramel malts, and citrus fruits. Taste of the same, with grapefruit, more citrus, pine, and tobacco. A bit of alcohol in the finish.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2008 Took a growler of this stuff home from the brewery. Pours a nice hazy honey color with beautiful white head which laces. Fruity aroma. Fresh piny hops, citrus touch of fresh lemon rind & oranges. Lots of tropical notes as well of mango/ a touch of peach. The body is somewhat light, but with a full flavor. Bright tropical fruits and grapefruit bitterness. Mango-like sweetness in the background from a solid crystal malt backbone. Nice long piny bitter finish. Extremely drinkable, and enjoyable.
