COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who arenít afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA. Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captainís Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

On tap at The Ginger Man in NYC. Pours hazy orange with an off-white head. The aroma has lots of hops ~ tropical, pine and citrus. There is a good rich caramel malt in the background, but definitely noticeable to give a very nice balance. The body is thick and chewy with moderate carbonation. The taste is much like the aroma and like the body the taste is very full and offers up more malt than the style usually shows. The hops are still very present and all aspects are represented well. It seems like there is a strong Simcoe hop presence. Very nice beer.

Growler, thanks to Dmac. Pours light copper with a moderate white head. Aroma of citrus and pine hops. Taste is of citrus and some floral hops, mainly grapefruit. Sweet malty notes go in there for a good amount of balance, I felt the aroma led me to believe it was going to be a more straight forward bombardment of hops, but this is nicely balanced. Good fruity sweetness going on in here. Iíd drink it again.

From a growler, thanks to Padrefan for sharing his bounty from his NJ hookup, dmac. Incredible aromas consisting of very fruity hops. Mango, apricot, pineapple. All sorts of sugar coated fruit. Very sweet and very fruity. Flavors were similar with just a touch of grass and pine and grapefruit. Very tasty. Thanks to you both.

Poured from a growler at Jon (Padrefanís) house. A great mini tasting with Fordest and Toncatcher. Color was a slightly cloudy amber-copper with a small white head. The aroma was hoppy with a bit of dusty and some mangoes; and as the beer warmed, other fruits such as apricots and pears emerged. The flavor was hoppy with a good pine character the fruits mentioned in the aroma and some cotton candy. The mouthfeel was silky smooth and malty. The finish was long and dry with over-the-top piney hops. Overall: A very good IIPA. Highly recommended.

From a growler. A huge thanks to dmac for this, my first growler in a trade. Awesome hops present, with a nice malty finish. Excellent beer.

Amber in color with a thin head. Low carbonation almost seems flat. Smells good with grapefruit, some citrus, and pine needles. Medium body. Taste is hoppy with a good bitterness and light fruitiness. Seemed a little off though because of the carbonation level.

Bottle, thanks to Bu11zeye....This was hand bottled, including an inkjet printed label, from what it looked like. Poured a light amber with minimal white head. Aroma was citris, almost grapefruit like, very nice. Flavor is a nice sweet malt with fruity notes and had a great nice balanced bitter....great use of hops. mouthfeel was very medium carbonation with a light mouthfeel. ...Very good beer, very refreshing.

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2013 bottled rating: all the aroma of the draft version reeking of citrus goodness, light bitterness, and some resins. beautiful head on the beer and it seems to be filtered a bit more than the draft offering. flavor packs a big hop cocktail, citrus rind, light grapefruit, mellow resins, and a nice smack of bitterness. it looses a bit of the chewiness but the hop flavors come across even cleaner. still right up there with the big boys and the flavor is perhaps a bit more intense.

growler from the brewery, poured a caramel amber in color with a one finger head. aroma has candy dipped hops, rich pine and citrus, grapefruit, and background malt. aroma is just so juicy and filed with goodness. flavor is definitely hop centered with some bitterness and resin. fruit comes out and mixes with the citrus that is put up against a hefty dose of malt. mouth feel is coating and has just enough carbonation to bring it all across. such a chewy brew but remains velvety right through. huge beer but it remains balanced allowing all the flavor to come through. on my favorites list.

Growler. I loved the aroma of this as I poured the growler for myself. The strong hop scent gave way to hints of malt and the first taste told me of the light malts that would eventually balance out in my glass. I found this to be super with pork lomein.

12 oz. hand bottle from Hophead 75. Thanks for trading with me. Poured out a hazy orange color, with a small tan head. Aromas are mostly hops. Piney, grapefruity hops. Flavors are mostly hops, with a sweet malt backbone. Medium mouthfeel, OK body. Alcohol is well hidden.
