This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who aren’t afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA. Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captain’s Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

Colden bright color; nice perlage, very small bubbles; medium sized head. The aroma is intense, with strong toffee; the hops are very piney, but also with a touch of vanilla and cookies. Excellent toffee flavor, with some residual sugars, but the body is quite lean; there is some cake flavor too; very strong bitterness, fresh hopping, creamy and biscuity, with soft fruits and soft resins. Powerful but harmonious.

Cloudy amber color; creamy head. Very nice hoppy aroma, with resins and fruits (delicate grapefruit). Good malty body, with an excellent aromatic and powerful hopping, with a lot of hop oils. Smooth and elegant. Excellent!

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear, dark yellow with a medium, white head. Big hop aroma with grapefruit, orange peel and grass. Lightly sweet with some caramel and honey, then very bitter with lots of citrus and pine. Medium to full in body with average carbonation. Finishes with moderate sweetness but mostly piney, citrusy and resiny hops. Very good.

Bottle. Golden beer, offwhite head. Malty nutty aroma, vinous and with some hops. Milky flavor, grassy, metal notes. Decent beer, but where did the hops go?

At GBBF 2009. Pure gold colour. Lovely aroma. Hot cos of the alcohol. Really quite strong because of the ABV but lovely at the same time.

Bottle. When opening, it slowly worked it’s way out of the bottle, spreading a fine scent of pine cones and citrus peel. It’s quite fizzy in the glass, but not producing much head, just a thin layer of off-white, dense bubbles. Some lacings. The aroma has the already mentioned hoppyness, as well as some alcohol and a malty backbone. It’s full-bodied and quite carbonated, slightly warming. Really smooth. Lots of bitterness and citrus and pine cones, a solid maltyness to match it as well. In the aftertaste the piney, citrusy hops and bitterness dominates, but there’s also room for some malty sweetness and alcohol burn. A well crafted beer that even though it’s definitely on the hoppy side would benefit from a higher attenuation. 110116

Hazy orange with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and rather hoppy - peach and pine. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. 090712

11/13/12/12/10/12

Dark amber color, small off-white head. Fruity, very strongly flowery hoppy nose. Fruity aromatic hoppy with balancing malts. Wow - this is an IIPA with all the hops and same time extremely drinkable. Finish is flowery and grassy. Good stuff.
