COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who aren’t afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA. Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captain’s Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

Bottle and served in my GI IPA Tulip: Pours a clean golden hue with a large fluffy head which left very nice lace upon the glassware. The aroma has a surprising subdued hop profile, some resiny and citric notes. a bit catty, biscuity and grainy malts, a hint of honey. mint and clove. The taste is a bit more hoppy but still the malt is easily noticeable. Sweet bread with a light handed peppery and clove hop character, very mild orange and grapefruit peel and a hint of doughy aftertaste. The mouth feel is moderate bodied and carbonated.

Is this too old already or was the hops just not that forward? By reading other reviews I doubt that age is the issue. Is it bad or has major flaws, not at all but I was underwhelmed for I expected a more crisp character from a DIPA with a golden color profile. There appears to only be minimal caramel or speciality malt used here. The hop cop, absolutesites would not care for this methinks.

Bottle courtesy of Glouglouburp- thanks Dany. Pours a medium straw colour with a fluffy white head. Nose- sweet candied fruits. Taste- same sweet candied tropical fruit and thicker then thought malt base. A big beer, a little less malt sweetness would be good.

AMAZINGLY I GOT THIS BEER AT MY LOCAL BRICK OVEN PIZZA PLACE, IT CAME IN A PINT + 6 OR 9 OZ BOTTLE AND IT WAS ONLY $4.50! WOW WHAT A VALUE ,BUT I WAS PROBABLY CHARGED WRONG. IT POURS GOLDEN HONEY WITH GENOUROUS WHITE HEAD AND SMELLS OF DELIOUS ROBUST HOPS. TASTE IS QUITE SWEET FOR A DOUBLE IPA WITH ONLY A SLIGHT BITTERNESS AND STANDARD IPA CITRUSY ZEST AND PINE FLAVOR. IT PAIRED WONDEFULLY WITH MY ARTICHOKE, SPINACH WHITE CHEESE PIZZA... GOOD BEER, GREAT PRICE!

clear yellow, huge thick slightly yellow whiteish head. very citrussy aroma, faint sweetness, oranges.. flavor is dry hoppy, grapefruit, sugar, pine, malty sweetness, yeasty bretty bitter note..huh?. A very bitter hoppy beer, unfortuneately the bitterness seems to be a bit too floral and strange, and the sweetness is not as caramelly and malty as i would like it, is more sweet like if sugar was added. Strong hoppy brew for sure, but i’ve had much better.

Clear yellow-gold pour with a little loose white head. Weakish pine and citrus aroma with faint clover honey, biscuit and wildflowers. Bright citrus flavor upfront with sweet toffee, honey, floral finish and some earthy biscuit. There’s a touch of cattiness that comes out as it warms up. Thinnish body with moderate carbonation.
