COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep and dark as a cold winter night… The Frost Monster is lurking. This beast of an ale started out as a pilot batch concept by packaging line veteran Justin Perrone. Thinking of his own monster (dog) “Frost” he wanted to make a beer that had intense flavor, aroma and strength. Working with Brewmaster Scott Vaccaro and Head Brewer Scott Tobin they came up with an Imperial Stout only befitting its title.

SENSORY PROFILE
Brewed with a massive amount of malt to give it the rich, roasted and smokey flavors expected of such an ale. Black in color with a head as white as the beast itself. Drink it this winter or lay some down for winters to come.

Sweet malty and a little bread aroma. Light tan head that fades immediately with a very black body. Thin bodied but still very sweet. Lots of cocoa flavor in there delicious. Sweet tasting but not even a hint of cloyingness. Very good.

Black pour, tan head, good lace/retention. Aroma is chocolate, roast, darker fruit, grapefruit. Medium to full body, pretty straightforward flavors and well made - but not all that exciting either.

Tap at Cask Republic. Dark dense pour with a smallish head. Rich aroma of roast / char and mild anise. Taste seems a little under flavored initially, but then a rich char note emerges. Not sweet. Full palate.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle, 2015 vintage. Aroma is fairly chocolate forward and rich with some light roast notes. Medium dark fruit notes with plum, prune, cherry and raisin. Some light alcohol notes with some bourbon and lighter oak notes. Pours black with some dark brown hues on the edges and a large, thick, dark mocha head that slowly collapses into itself. Moderately high to high lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is rich and somewhat sweet with some moderate chocolate notes and medium light roast character. Moderate dark fruit notes similar to in the aroma. Some moderate bitterness with light floral and grassy hop notes. Light bourbon and oak notes with hints of alcohol spice. Some lingering chocolate and dark fruit in the finish with a hint of acidity. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium high carbonation. Low, but present astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer but not amazing. Too much dark fruit, a bit too astringent and bitter. Light acidic twang.

Style et résumé: Imperial stout ordinaire.
Comment: EBF 2016.
Portrait: Une robe brune très foncée presque noire. Un nez de chocolat, de fruits rouges et noirs, de malts rôtis. La bouche est aussi aux saveurs de chocolat, de cendre et malts rôtis. Ordinaire.
Note: 7/10

4 oz. sample at Brew Woo ’16. Pours black as night with a brown foamy head. Heavy roasted malt aroma with a hint of expresso. Rich chocolate malt and coffee on the taste with some earthy hops detected when you let it linger in your mouth. Full bodied and intense. Nice!

12 oz. Bottle thanks to Matt B! 2015 vintage. Pitch black in color, big lasting tan head. Aroma consists of strong roasted malt, dry coffee notes, and mild anise notes also showing.

The flavor shows the big roasted malt backbone. Secondary flavors of coffee, chocolate, and subtle amounts of char. Thankfully I don’t taste any anise. The body is fuller a dry roasted / char texture. The booze is totally hidden. For a non-barrel aged stout with no adjuncts, this is really solid!

Finally came across this monster. Wonderful appearance, especially the thick starting head which was some sort of dark tan with glowing red/orange highlights. And then some lace leaves its mark. Nose and taste are fairly typical, dark roast, tootsy roll, anise. Not a lot of complexity but very drinkable.
