COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Batch 1 (2008) and Batch 2 (2010) of Captain Lawrence’s Extra Gold aged in apple brandy barrels. There’s nothing quite likes Mom’s apple pie…But I am willing to bet this beer is pretty darn close. An American Tripel, dry-hoped with Amarillo hops and aged in Apple Brandy barrels from one of this country’s oldest distilleries. The tropical aroma of the hops and the delicate apple aroma from the barrels are a perfect match

Belle signature de la levure avec une avalanche d’exotisme. La pomme brille vigoureusement dans cette juteuse dégustation.

A - Pours a hazy golden-orange color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down fairly slowly leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of sweet malts, apples, Brandy, oak, Belgian yeast, coriander and other spices, lemon zest, and some booze. T - Starts off with a mix of sweet pale malts with some tart apples, lemon zest, some light spices and a bit of vanilla. Through the middle, the oak and Brandy come through with some more Belgian yeast flavors with some coriander and other spices. The finish is a mix of apple Brandy, oak, sweet malts, lemon zest, Belgian yeast, and some booze. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet and warming finish. D - Very drinkable. The apple brandy goes really nicely with the big Tripel base.

Sample at 20th Vermont Brewers Festival from a bottle pour. A nice golden apple colour with a billowy white head. The apple brandy on this one was fairly overwhelming - lots of alcohol and apples leaving little room for anything else except for some pears. Mild carbonation and strong body with lots of alcohol - hops come through more on the palate in terms of dryness and some bitterness but either this was too young or it just wasn’t my thing.

Bottle-from a 2012 batch?, 10/05/2012. Pours orange copper, large bubbled sudsy head with soapy lacing. Lightly sweet aroma- crisp green apples, honey, cobbler; somewhat citrusy aged hop character as well; oak with vanilla, prominent caramel notes, apple brandy. Taste is apple brandy and white fruits, spices, vanilla, cake-like malt character, clean finish with a bit of heat. Medium palate, smooth. Really different and quite nice.

Bottle... Poured a hazy pale, golden with a thick white head. This was nice. Noticeable booze with hop bitterness and barrel characters. Some nice fruits and a hint of tangy apples. Vanilla, yeast spice and esters. Earthy floral hops that worked with the booze and barrel characters. Wow, this is nice.

Bottle to snifter. I actually poured this into a ceramic coffee mug first to take with me on a walk with the wife. First impression was that it had a lasting head that clung to the side of the mug. Aroma was apple brandy and flavor was highly alcoholic. I regretted opening this without letting it age more. When I go home, though, I poured it into a snifter and really appreciate the glowing goldenrod color and that white head that is still around. The aroma is much fruitier with prominent notes of apple cider and pear juice. The taste is still pretty boozy but less astringent now that it has opened up a bit. There’s a slight sourness that I wasn’t expecting. Light in the mouth and finishes pretty dry. I would have appreciated a little more malt body and flavor to round out the rough brandy edge.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours golden with a fluffy, off-white head. Aroma of apples, alcohol, oak, some spicy yeast, caramel malts, and floral and citrusy hops. Flavor a great combination of everything, but it’s a little weird with all of the apple. Average texture. A pretty good beer

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks Dagan. Clear golden. Aroma of apples, wood, a bit of yeasty spiciness and alcohol. Sweet fruity alcoholic flavor with apples, brandy, some wood and vanilla. Finishes very alcoholic. Medium-bodied. Kinda hard to drink.
