COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Batch 1 (2008) and Batch 2 (2010) of Captain Lawrence’s Extra Gold aged in apple brandy barrels. There’s nothing quite likes Mom’s apple pie…But I am willing to bet this beer is pretty darn close. An American Tripel, dry-hoped with Amarillo hops and aged in Apple Brandy barrels from one of this country’s oldest distilleries. The tropical aroma of the hops and the delicate apple aroma from the barrels are a perfect match

Distinctly apple-y and yeasty in the aroma - it is a bit like apple pie. Medium sweet with flavors closely echoing the aroma.

Pours a cloudy golden yellowish-orange color with a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks and spots of lacing left behind. Sweet apple aroma with a strong brandy barrel character along with subtle earthy hops and estery light fruit notes. Subtle earthy oak along with lots of vanilla and apple brandy. Some zesty spice and fruit notes from the yeast, notably more apple and some pear. Medium bodied with a slight creamy texture and a very prominent barrel character. Some dry, toasted oak along with vanilla, caramel apple and brandy. Although there is a lot of brandy flavor it’s very sweet and smooth with just a little heat. Only subtle warmth in the finish. The apply brandy is complimented by light fruit notes from the yeast. Some zesty spice and faint earthy hops for balance but it’s still very sweet and slightly one-dimensional. I could see how some would think that it’s way too sweet but I had no trouble polishing off the whole 750ml.

Bottle shared by a friend. Pours a clear gold with a medium white head. Aroma of apples, malt and light hop. Apple flavor with malt and a hint of crisp hops before a dry finish.

Bottled. The aroma has apple fruitiness, some citrus, bit yeasty. Hazy golden coloured beer with a thin, white head. The taste is a bit sweet, has apples, some winey tones, malts. Good bodied, nice balance.

Bottle looks quite simple. Beer in the glass copper coloured, nice head. Starts strong, quite sourish, some fruity hints of apple. Finish a bit unbalanced, moldy-sourish, dry. Not my favourite.

Poured from a 750 into a tulip glass. Straw color with fluffy white head. Aroma is apple brandy, caramel, earthy, leaves, and some spice, Taste is very potent apple brandy which is uniquely interesting. Base tripel is nice as well with a clean taste.

750, big apple brandy flavors here that really complement the triple flavors. Sweet and apple tartness. The brandy characteristics are really charming

very lightly hazy golden with a nice white head, lacing... apple skin, creamy, oaky, lightly cidery, ... has a distinct creamy oaky, apple cider flavor and finishes very much apple brandy like.. interesting.. medium to medium full body, as it warms it becomes full bodied... the brandy barrels clearly impart a ton of flavor to the beer... a little hot in the finish...
