Batch 1 (2008) and Batch 2 (2010) of Captain Lawrence’s Extra Gold aged in apple brandy barrels. There’s nothing quite likes Mom’s apple pie…But I am willing to bet this beer is pretty darn close. An American Tripel, dry-hoped with Amarillo hops and aged in Apple Brandy barrels from one of this country’s oldest distilleries. The tropical aroma of the hops and the delicate apple aroma from the barrels are a perfect match

Bottle from Capone’s Restaurant. Mild apple, light apple juice colour. Hops understated, big on the tripel, and understated apple brandy. I would like more hops and apple brandy, but then it would be a different ale, Buteuse anyone?

Most recent vintage. Aroma is initially dominated by apple cider but that quickly fades and you get a solid amount of the barrel character. Solid pear and fruit esters along with some light malt character. Some alcohol spice in the aroma. Pours a cloudy golden orange, similar to cloudy apple juice. Moderately thick white head with fairly good retention. Light lacing and faint legs. Flavor starts with some slightly sweet malt character, but that quickly dissipates and is overwhelmed by apple brandy barrel. The finish is all barrel and alcohol. It unfortunately really overwhelms the base beer. Some fruit notes and moderate bitterness. Wow, I really don?t like the finish. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low but present astringency and moderate alcohol warmth. Overall this beer really missed the mark past the initial taste. The beer is dominated by barrel notes and really doesn?t offer much else. The bitterness also doesn?t work super well with the barrel finish. It actually gets better as it warms.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy golden amber with short lasting white head
Aroma: Apple juice, slight sourness/vinegar
Taste: Starts a bit sweet, then transitions into a nice light apple flavor
Palate: Light body, sour tinge at the finish
Overall: Very light for a tripel, and the apple brandy comes out nicely. Alcohol is hidden except for a slight warming sensation.

Bottle chilled by the wife after cellar shopping. Pours golden with a white foam head that reduces to a small ring. Nose of green apples. Taste begins with some light cracker and flowers, green apple on the finish. Alchohol becomes noticable as it warms.

Bottle. Murky yellow amber pour. Sweet, apple, boozy, and oak. A bit musty. Meh.

bottle, from Van Loans. Nothing telling me the batch #. Good aroma, sweet, apple, orange, light oak, light yeasty funk. Clean orangy gold color, good head that faded quickly , spotty lace. Sweet flavor. medium body, slick creamy mouthfeel, dry sweet finish. Pretty tasty. big on apple and brandy barrel. darn easy drinking for 10%. Very well done

bottle share at hill farmstead’s pre-3rd anniversary. pours cloudy yellow without a head. sweet apples, mainly red ones, yeasty and light bretts, honeyed malts, some subtle floral and spicy notes, soft oaky notes - aged-cider-like. maybe batch 1 but hops are subdued and it unfortunately feels like an old and cheap apple pie. average to soft carbonation, medium body - sticky and sweet. meh.

Pours a murky golden with no head and no lacing. Aroma of apple, spices, sweet aromas. Taste is malty, yeasty, some calvados-like apples, sweet. Medium body and low carb. I was really happy when i saw this bottle open and had good expectation, and they fell off....

Slightly hazy burnt orange slight gusher with a head that fades fast. Has an oaky sewage nose. Very dry earthy taste. Apples are present and so is this boozy alcohol burn at the finish. Abv feels more than it is. Very bland boring finish
