COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Batch 1 (2008) and Batch 2 (2010) of Captain Lawrence’s Extra Gold aged in apple brandy barrels. There’s nothing quite likes Mom’s apple pie…But I am willing to bet this beer is pretty darn close. An American Tripel, dry-hoped with Amarillo hops and aged in Apple Brandy barrels from one of this country’s oldest distilleries. The tropical aroma of the hops and the delicate apple aroma from the barrels are a perfect match

Bottle. Pours gold with a white head. Nose is apple, wood and a little hop bite. Taste is boozy, slightly buttery, strong notes from the barrel. Nice apple aftertaste thats isn't overwhelming. Mouthfeel is medium, slightly on the dry side. Could use a little more carb. Pretty tasty and well put together. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Shared this bottle at a local tasting awhile back, Pours a hazy yellow with a thin head, the aroma is pretty sweet with a little bit of the brandy coming through, the flavor is really sweet with a little bit of sour apples in the finish, a little boozy but still pretty solid, not bad.

On tap at blue monk, captain Lawrence beer dinner. Dark gold amber pour with a thin white head. Smells like fruit, Apple, sugar. Yeasty. Tastes sweet, some hops. Brandy heats things up and adds lots of Apple. Warmer it gets, the more syrupy it gets.

Bottle from DiarmaidBHK - pours clear golden orange with some great white lacing left on the glass. Aroma is hoppy with some apple boozy. Taste is sweetish. Overall, solid, but not my style.

Bottle from DeCicco New City. Pours golden with an Inch of white foam. Has some nice apple notes on the nose. Nice fragrant floral hops on the tongue. Has a bit of apple and wood on the tongue as well. Finishes clean. Solid.

Bottle from Gianni - thanks! Pours a hazy glowing orange with a thick head of white foam. Aroma is sweet brandy with tart fruit, oak, and a mix of sweet underlying malts. Taste is heavier with brandy than the aroma and contains vanilla, semi-hot alcohol, and somewhat tart bitterness over dense, sweet malt. Mouthfeel is relatively light but appropriate for the beer. Quite different but the brandy barrel really dominates making it very hard to pick up much from the underlying base beer. Nice beer though.

750mL bottle. Pours gold and fizzy, lively, with a small, short-lived head. Aromas of sour apple and cider, yeast, and lemon juice. Mild apple spice, and booze, as it warms. The flavor is tart apple, cider, booze, and brandy; sweet, a little hot, with apple brandy notes. Buttered toast, oak, apple butter, butterscotch, vanilla, and sweet apple in the finish. High carbonation, medium body, lending to a lively beer, with tart and dry qualities. Nice, subtle barrel-aged apple and brandy flavors. This grows on me as I drink it. [1126]

(Rating #4439)

Bottle picked up at Captain Lawrence. The beer is indeed golden colord with a thick whit head. The aroma offers yeast, light spice, malt, booze. Brandy emerges more in the flavor, as well as prominent apple and pears throughout. A bit hot in both the aroma and flavor. Oak character emerges more as the beer warms. Lingering alcoholic warmth with a touch of spices and yeast. Slightly sweet and fruity. Medium bodied with plenty of carbonation. Overall, this was a fun beer to try, but not among my favorites of the style. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-14-2012

Belle signature de la levure avec une avalanche d’exotisme. La pomme brille vigoureusement dans cette juteuse dégustation.
