3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
not as awesome as i had hoped. Lots of apple brandy flavors and not much body. Thin and sharp, the last two qualities I am looking for in a barrel aged bru. Also, this is a fresh bottle yet it was oxidized. :(

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2014-08-15. Very dark brown body with a small tan head. 3++ Aroma is lightly smokey over a modest malty core. Flavour is similar, lightly fruity throughout, apple if you look for it. Moderate smoke over a dark malt core. Smooth average plus bodied palate, soft carbonation. Decent but not really to my own tastes. Bottle at Campground Brewdown

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle... Tar-black pour with a small, frothy, beige head. Decent retention. The aroma is smoky with a nice fudge component and a hint of fruity apple brandy. Full-bodied with airy carbonation. The flavor is a mélange of charcoal, campfire smoke and alcohol. Finishes coarse, scorched and acrid. Bottle courtesy of mikeq215!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler pours dark, ruby edges. Minimal head leaves slightly soapy lacing. Big apple brandy nose, some booze mid wiff. Taste is begins sweet from the brandy, mild smoke hits mid sip and continues past the finish. Some cherry, plum linger on the finish. Full body. Booze does not burn but is deffinatly there as a I am super psyched for another agonizing move.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
75cl bottle I picked up at the brewery pours a hazy, mahogany amber with some sudsy, off white head. Nose has quite a bit of earthy peat, malt, licorice, some cold smoke, a little bit of barbeque sauce, some licorice, some rubber. Not a whole lot of barrel in the nose. The barrel character comes out a bit more in the flavor, some fairly heavy char, some vanillin, some grape jelly, some toast, some licorice, a little ketchup, smoked salmon, earthy, some sawdust, a little bit of bourbon. Full bodied, smokey, sweet finish.

4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: pours dark black with a thin tan head, nice light smokey, chocolate, malty aroma, taste is not too sweet, a touch of some bitterness and just some light smokiness in the finish. I’m not a huge fan of smoked beers, this one does it right by making it more subtle.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared tonight by Dr Rob, thanks for the opportunity!
Huge smokey campfire with hints of chocolate and caramel offset with some woody apple brandy notes. Very nice brew.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle bought from the brewery. Pours black with a tan head. Smell of wood, apple, brandy, smoke, malt. Taste is pretty much the same, with some chocolate. A lot of layers to the flavor. Medium palate and chewy mouthfeel. Really complex and interesting beer.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Lord Hobo, 4/6/14
Well, pretty cool that I got to try this, Cuvee Delphine and Black Berry Albert, on the downside, I missed the MOTHERFU**ING Fou Foune, Consecration, Merveilleux. Damn.
Small light tan head tops an opaque, deep brown body. Low retention.
No smoke in the nose, though you do get plenty of chocolate, oddly enough. Wouldnt be able to tell there’s any apple or brandy either. Light wood tannins, vanilla and some light tobacco...but mostly just chocolate. I guess there’s a little bit of fruitiness, and as it warms, it opens up a little, adding more barrel notes, but it’s pretty low on the aroma.
Flavor is sweet, fudgey chocolate, drying some with wood tannin and light brandy dryness. Candied cherries, light vanilla and a bit of vinousness, though it’s held at bay by the thick chocolatey maltiness. Mouthfeel is soft, supple, chewy. Carbonation is low, but what’s there still remains pretty tight. A very, very understated, somewhat muted even, beer. I get no apple, just a touch of brandy warmth/acidity and very, very little smokiness. It’s more of just a light, oily roast with just a hint of tobacco smoke. Not that there’s anything wrong with understated; in fact I usually prefer it. Unfortunately, the beer itself is just a little too fudgey-sweet. Very little porter character. Hides the abv well, at least.
