COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
I am a big fan of oak aged beers, as you can probably tell from yet another addition in the "Smoke from the Oak" series. And i have to tell you, it is getting harder and harder to find new & exciting barrels to age our Smoked Porter in. This one was simply dumb luck smacking me in the face as I perused the shelved at my local liquor store. Apple Brandy has been produced in this country for centuries, so why not age our full bodied Smoked Porter in freshly emptied barrels from one of America’s oldest distilleries. Straight from the Captain’s cellar to yours, we hope you enjoy.

Bottle shared by tarheels86 -- Black, tan creamy head. Intense aromas of peat smoked bacon wrapped in thick layers of salty dark fruit, chocolate coated apple, and swirls of oaken vanilla throughout. Concentrated applewood smoked meat flavors ride deep undercurrents of caramelized plum and fig from start to finish. Swirls of of choco-brandy booze round to almost pure perfection. Full bodied, medium carbonation, smoked apple finish. Fantastic…

750mL bottle. Poured very deep brown with a short-ish, dense dark tan head.. looked good in the glass. The aroma picked up meaty campfire-smoked malts, baker’s chocolate, and some licorice.. a little peppery Calvados present, but more apple wood than liquor.. very nice. The flavor found near-burnt licorice, chocolate, and other black malts, with tasty smoke laced throughout.. spicier toward the back, with the brandy showing up.. Calvados, smoke, and dry roast on the belly-warming finish. Medium-plus bodied with enough carbonation to keep it moving through the palate.. excellent brew!

Bottle. 25.4 oz. Split with and courtesy of big Tommy Boy. Pours a deep cola black with a very fine, wispy tan head. Aroma is a bit subdued, but filled with caramelized apples. smokey wood, honey maple bacon, and some malty, chalky chocolate notes. Fuller bodied, more akin to a stout or lower gravity imperial stout; well rounded, bouyant and full on the tongue. Some intense smoke initially is followed by flavors of soft creamy apple brandy and softly sour lactic cream notes. This is really complex stuff; swirling and filling the tongue with nuanced flavors until the warm, mellowing finish. This is brilliant stuff.

750ml bottle shared at a tasting - thanks to whoever brought this. Dark brown in color with minimal light tan head. Huge smoky aroma with some dark chocolate and some slight brandy notes. Good apple brandy on the flavor with huge rauchbier smoky notes. Dark chocolate and roast as well. Medium- full body with a dry mouthfeel and average carbonation or a bit less. Pretty good smoked porter that doesn’t hold back on the smoke.

This poured a murky brown color with a small beige head. Aroma was smoked peat, apples, booze and some roasted toffee and caramel. Flavor was a great blend of flavors reminded me of a lesser HOTD Matt, smokey peat and the brandy are the main flavors with thick sweet malt in the back. Alcoghol is there too. Good Stff

Capt law imp apple. 750ml bottle. Thanks to miketd for sharing during the JO’s bottle release... Pours a dark murky cola brown with a thin wispy tan pour... Aorma is big on smoke and lighter applely flavor tannins from the brandy barrel. Nice body and flavor between both aroma and flavor. I kinda liked this while diggin on the smoke and brandy barrel qualities. 8/4/8/4/15

2010 750 ml bottle shared by maltajo - Pours a dark brown color with a thin light tan head. Very light lacing. Aroma is smoke and esters. Flavor is smoke, esters, and chocolate. Didn’t get much of the brandy barrel. Medium to full body. A good beer. Thanks Joe.
