BückDich (4497), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 15, 2008 Bottle: Nice ebony brown color with a puffy tan head, nice lacing and a beautiful luminous ruby hue through the light. The nose is fruity with some blackberry and ample bourbon with some oak, chewy cherry and toffee notes. The flavor is strongly bourboned, lots of vanilla, oak and light sweet fruit and astringency to balance. I LOVE bourbon, and this is so 1 dimensional I lust after it while simultaneously wanting to slam it for not being versatile. Then again, it’s fun to have something to use now and again for 1 certain thing, right?
WeeHeavySD (1564), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jul 18, 2008 750ml batch 2 via glougoburp I believe or maybe Puzzl, everyone seems to think this is better than batch 1 but I don’t have any way to compare. Pours dark dark brown with a 1 finger light brown head. Nose is sweet and rich with some bourbon notes and some other nice sweet molasses like notes. Taste is sweet and rich and full of flavor and a nice kick. Yummers. MaltOMeal (237), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Jul 18, 2008 750ml bottle thanks to kempleton. Shared with zinister and thickerfreakness. Pours black with a tan head and has good lacing. Nose is fruity with bourbon and spices. taste is of bourbon, fruit and wood characteristics. Mouthfeel is medium with carbonation and a warming alcohol feel to it. A complex and very enjoyable brew. Zinister (830), Houston, Texas, USA Jul 13, 2008 Thanks to MaltOMeal for this bottle! Shared with MaltOMeal and thickfreakness. Poured a dark coffee color with a bubbly tan head that clings to the side of the glass. Aroma is cherries, bourbon and spices. Rich bourbon flavor with a touch of smokeyness. The rich fizzy carbonation is a bit too much however. Very good drinking beer with a nice bourbon flavor. Thanks bill. railcat1 (482), Hammond, Indiana, USA Jul 4, 2008 This beer poured a dark ruby color with a nice strong kick to it and flavors of olak and vanillia and a nice complex finish to it.CHEERS! Crosling (1603), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jun 28, 2008 Batch 1. Deep mahogany color with a full foam. Beautiful aromatics of caramel, toffee, oak, vanilla and bourbon. In the mouth it’s loaded with malty goodness, chocolate, coffee, fruit, caramel with an intriguing barrel character as well. Very complex and well crafted. This is easily my favorite beer from Captain Lawrence.
