2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 puzzl (3093) - New York, USA - SEP 17, 2009
Tap at Rattle’n’Hum. Nutty, putrid water aroma, syrupy and mushroomy. Watery body, with sweet, earthy notes, and some very weird fruits. Some juniper throws another wild card in there. Blech. Way too much going on in no particularly good ways.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 koopa (335) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 25, 2010
Growler purchased at the brewery on the day they released SFTO Apple Brandy Barrel.
Appearance: Darker iced tea brown with red highlights and honey corners. A small 1 finger white crown that shows little retention or lace.
Smell: Pale malt, sugar, and loads of honey!
Taste: Biscuit malt up front followed by a quick wave of honey mixed with a touch of lightly spicy hops and finished by a nice honey finish. A slight tea flavor is present as well.
Mouthfeel: A touch heavier than medium bodied with a small amount of syrup likeness. Surprisingly crisp though!
Drinkability: A bit too sugary (in a nice honey way) for mass consumption. I’m splitting the growler with 2 other people. However the crispness really helps.
This beer isn’t very reminiscent of other BPA’s. I didn’t review it "for the style" but rather by how I liked it, which is not my normal approach.
Serving type: growler

Honey and crystal malt aromas. Golden-orange color with strong head. "Saisony" with a honey, nuttiness. A bit of citrus flavor in the finish too.

Draught at Ginger Man, NYC Cloudy light amber color; creamy head. Dusty, dirty water aroma, cooking herbs. Weak body, light flavor; simple Ale, the flavor reminds me of... sushi (or to better say, the flavor of the sushi rice with the rice vinegar). Low bitterness. Very strange.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Pawola22 (2203) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 24, 2009
On tap at the Ginger Man in NYC. Pours a cloudy red-orange body with a finger-width, creamy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is a somewhat grainy, moderately sweet wheat malt with some Belgian fruits and yeast, honey, and a light earthy hop. Flavor is similar with more of a noticable Belgian yeasty spicing. Some grainy, moderately sweet malts, wheat dough, a mixture of fruits, some tartness, and honey. Finishes dry with a light earthy bitterness and a semi-sweet, lightly spiced, fruity aftertaste that lasts for a moderate duration. Light bodied and crisp. Overall, this wasn’t as bad as some people have made it out to be. It wasn’t great, but it was enjoyable.

Wasn’t very impressed by this beer. Basically just tasted like an American-style amber with Belgian yeast. Coulda’ shoulda’ been better.

On tap Pony Bar NYC. Light amber pour. Dry grassy even wood notes. Not what I expected from three great brewerys. Sticky pallet. One pint was enough.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 TeamTrappist (799) - jericho, New York, USA - NOV 6, 2009
Tap at waterfront ale house. Poured a cloudy amber. Nose was yeast and honey. Flavor was a jumbled mix of honey and Belgian yeast with an odd aftertaste that was slightly metalic. Strange beer in that some sips I thought were pretty good, and others not so much.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20 Glouglouburp (4781) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 5, 2009
In short: A dusty dirty yeasty rough golden Belgian ale. Something went wrong here.
How: Tap at Waterfront, NYC
The look: Partially cloudy dark golden body topped by a long lasting small beige head
In long: The yeasty nose has that strong dusty character with minerals that I found a little repulsive. Taste of hard water, licking an old dusty chest drawer, spiciness borderline salty, wood chips, grainy malts, honey/caramel. Overall very “rough” and dirty. Unpleasant rough mouthfeel full of minerals and with a carbonation way too aggressive. I love Captain Lawrence but this beer is problematic to say the least. Because it is from Captain Lawrence I would normally have suspected I got a bad pint (problem keg?, shit on the line, whatever) but since this beer seems to be universally disliked I guess I got what it is supposed to be. Insulting, I think the dudes at Captain Lawrence actually don’t like New-York and the full name of the beer really is Phi 7, NY3.

Growler. Pours a hazy amber with a lasting, white head. Smells of sweet malt, some honey hints. Tastes earthy and funky with some peachy hints on the finish.
